Satellite for French/German TV as well as English

Going to try posting this here as well, since some of you may be doing this.

Hi. This is a follow on from my question about analogue switch off. A satellite dish seems a good idea, but it has occrred to me that I have heard that you can get satellites to get European TV, which would be great for us.

Doe anyone know anything about this?

Different channels are on different satellites, some are encrypted so you need to buy a card as well

Which satellite and where you live determines the size of dish you need
Depending on where you live you may need planning permission for the dish

King of Sat lists all the info

We have this sat dish, it points at 3 satellites simultaneously,

Eutelsat Hotbird 13° Ost
ASTRA 19,2° Ost
ASTRA 23,5° Ost
ASTRA & Eurobird 28,5° Ost

It depends where you are, how good the reception is. When we lived in Germany we got all the normal German channels and BBC/ITV freeview channels. Since moving to Switzerland we don't get the all the channels. You can also use the dish with a Sky box, I think.

Good info here

This probably isn't relevant but are you aware there is a limited but okay service on Sky in French and probably German too?

Worth looking into, I suppose, if the satelite proves too much like hard work ...

If this isn't of any use, please ignore me.

Hi there. when i had my son i wanted to get french tv so that he would get to watch programs in both language and also for me as sometimes i missed it.i googled it and found
www.totalsat.co.uk which is where i got it. At the time it was just for the 6 free channel and now it is for a lot more. When we moved we took the dish and box with us and they came to install it for us for a small fee.the reception is great as well .would definetly recommend it.

Racingsnake · 24/03/2009 21:25

Great idea. will look out for it. Would it get British channels as well?

Yes you can still get the english channel.the box is like a sky box and plugs in the tv and you switch it on when you want to watch the french tv. hope this is what you were looking for.
