It's PhD funding decision day and I am a nervous wreck!

My application for a university quota place for ESRC funding is before the ESRC board today. Either today or tomorrow I will find out if I am the one of 40 or so applicants to have the funding. It is the culmination of two years hard work getting the proposal ready and doing the MSc and I am nervous!!

Please offer me calming vibes!!

Oh Hockeypuck, good luck.
If you don't get it this time then try again another year.

Thank you all :-)

Still not heard - my fingernails are short and painted, the bathroom and kitchen have been scrubbed to an inch of their life, I have done my exfoliating and fake tan and taken DS to the shops and the park.

Why is time going so slowly today dammit!! I never normally accomplish that much in one day!

Any news?

hockeypuck · 20/03/2009 11:14

No!!!!! no-one has heard anything and the administrators aren't answering their phones!!!

Going stir-crazy here. I was much more confident about it (albeit nervous) yesterday than I am today.

I got it!!!! I can't quite believe it!!!

Found out this afternoon. They phoned me and all I could do was cry down the phone I didn't hear anything else she said, so will have to go in and confirm details with them on Monday!

Even though it's something I worked really hard towards I still can't imagine that I have it :-)

Thanks for positive vibes!

I am doing a BA in Human Geography, (second year) I would LOVE to do a PhD eventually, I just cannot imagine it all working out, so it is really great to hear that it has worked out for you hockeypuck, that gives me some hope, PLUS it must be so damn exciting for you!!!

Do you believe it yet!!!???

hockeypuck · 21/03/2009 17:29

No, still in shock!!!

For so many months I've been thinking "if I get the funding I wil..." "If I don't get the funding I'll look for work, or do this...." and I am still in that mindset to be honest.

When I started my MSc 18 months ago, I had a 17 month old and a 4 year old and a part time job. When I realised there were no grades as such I thought, Oh well, I'll just go for a pass and not kill myself trying to get a distinction. My first grade back was 70, a distinction so I have totally applied myself to every assignment going and I am on target to get a reasonably good distinction in September when it's all finished. It was totally worth that effort, so I'm glad I did it.

Good luck with yours - it's totally worth it in the end!

Congratulations hockeypuck! Enjoy it.

And pity me - I only got my decision to give me funding on Sep 15th for the next October! Talk about nail-biting.

hockeypuck · 24/03/2009 10:49

Ouch - that wait would have killed me! I'm lucky to have got a quota place so don't have to wait for the open competition. I can finish my MSc off in peace now without the worry about what I'll do next
