When did you start daily bathing?

Not sure if it is ok for 4 months old?

tbh daily bathing isn't good for anyone - DS is 2 and we bath him about every two-three days.

it's not good for their skin to be bathed every day, IMO.

spicemonster · 18/03/2009 18:38

I don't bath my 2 YO more than twice a week. He has really dry skin and it makes it worse (very hard water here)

MrsHappy · 18/03/2009 18:40

I've always done it from when DD was a couple of weeks old. She has never had dry skin - it depends on the child.

For me it was great to get to a stage where DD loved her bath early on. That way even if we had had a hellish day with constant screaming I would get 10 mins of calm in the evening!

erm... never?

they really don't need it

Jewelsandgems · 18/03/2009 21:00

I bathed mine every day since day dot really. If only a quick relaxing lay in warm water and then out. Now my DDs are 1 and 2, they love the bath every night, and it is an integral part of their bedtime routine [saying that, I think they prefer the part of the day when both mummy and daddy are there, and if that happens to be bathtime, they are happy with it!)

My girls have always had lovely skin. Never dry

Haribosmummy · 18/03/2009 21:01

I generally bathe DS every day. He doesn't have dry skin and loves the bath / playing etc. ,

But, he's fallen asleep tonight so missed it!!!

nickytwotimes · 18/03/2009 21:02

We've done it since ds was a month or two old and still do it every night. It chills him out and means bedtime is coming.
We don't use soap or anything btw.

mulranno · 20/03/2009 12:54

Did it more when the were little...1,2,3....and more in the summer when the are out doors and messy...at moment they are 8,9,10...after football on sun morning and once during the week...they "shower" at school every day after sports...but I doubt soap in involved!

stickybeaker · 20/03/2009 13:17

Another one for day one here. DD has no skin problems, and I can never get her clean unles she's bathed. She loves it too, and I honestly think it helped with the sleeping routine... bath...milk...story...bed...

She's 14 months now and we do exactly the same thing every night. It keeps everyone happy as she seems to know what's coming next, and she's in bed by 6 and sleeps through no problems.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/03/2009 13:22

From just a few weeks old for both of my ds's.

It just becomes part of their bedtime routine and is fun while being relaxing too. Neither have any issues with their skin though - that would be a reason to bathe less often.

ohdearwhatamess · 20/03/2009 13:24

Ds1 had daily baths from being 12 weeks old until ds2 arrived.

Now both dcs have baths every 2 or 3 days.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/03/2009 13:26

DS has a bath with his dad every night and has done since he was a couple of weeks old. He has never had a problem with his skin.

It's more about a bedtime routine and time with daddy than getting clean. He loves it.

Dalrymps · 20/03/2009 13:29

I bath ds every 2/3 days. He has sensitive skin like me though so it gets dry if any more frequent.

gingerninja · 20/03/2009 13:29

Never, we're a generally twice a week bath here too. Wash every day including bum but daily baths seem unecessary hassle. DD has no fear of water, (can actually swim about 3 metres) and we have a bed time routine, just doesn't involve bathing. (I prefer to bath her in the morning anyway as it tames her wild hair!)

monkeybumsmum · 20/03/2009 14:19

I agree with MrsHappy, it certainly does depend on the child. We bathed ds every day from the day after he was born until he was about 18 months. Then, he developed a bit of eczema on his legs and so we've gone down to every other day. Hasn't seemed to help the eczema though

One thing we used to do when bathing every day was to put a little baby oil in the bath for a swish round before ds came out. Made his skin lovely and soft! We don't do it any longer what with him wanting to do crazy things like jumping while he's getting clean. Oil and bouncy kids just don't mix
