We had intended to use reusables for DD1 & then DD2, but each time caved in to either doubt or disorganisation, and resorted to disposables.

33 weeks pregnant with DC3, I looked again. We took the plunge, and ordered 24 Bum Genius nappies from Nappyzone. We had intended to use them on DD2, and keep DD1 in pull-ups, but when she saw the colours, she insisted on trying them too!!

We had prepared ourselves for the inevitable first-time users leaks, and knowing that we were using cloth nappies I told DH that we were bound to have teething problems. Not so! DD1 & 2 woke yesterday morning with not a drip anywhere to be seen. And their bottoms were lovely and dry also.

We were so pleased! We have now washed all of the nappies, and adjusted them, so we have them all ready for the hospital bag, and DDs 1&2 will be using them from now on also.

DD1 did leak a tiny bit last night, but she is 14.1 kg, and DH put it on slightly off-centre, so I suspect it just created a little hole for a tiny leak. We have had our first poo from DD2 in them - gross.

Thank you Nappyzone, for excellent service and fast delivery. We are a cloth family at last, 3.6 years after we first consisdered it. Better late than never.

Nappyzone, hi, I've been reading a lot of threads about re-usable nappies and would love to try the bumgenius one size nappy, I think its a V3.

I've never used a reusable nappy before and realy haven't a clue how to use them. Could you please give me some advice, do they need liners and do you have to soak them in Milton etc before you wash them? Do you know how long they take to try and how many would I need do you think? My daughter is just 5 months old and I'd love to try them.

Also, do you know if anywhere would sell me one or two nappies to see how I get on with them.

I hope you don't mind me contacting you for advice and hope you can help.

Thanks so much!

Browny - I know you were asking the OP but thought I would answer anywasy:

NO they are fleece lined so they keep baby ddry all the time without liners and the poo should just tip down the loo. You can use liners if you want, and we occasionally do if DD is having some nasty poo!

and do you have to soak them in Milton etc before you wash them? NO you don't need to soak at all. Most people who se washables nowadays dry pail. So you just shove them in a lidded bucket till you are ready to wash! I usually do a rinse cycle on the washing machine before the main wash though - just to get the worst out but this isn't essential.

Do you know how long they take to try and how many would I need do you think?

They only take a few hours to dry the pockets, but the inserts can take longer I think (I couldn't tell you as I only use the bumgenious outter and use my own inserts because my daughter is a heavy wetter). How maany you need depends on how often you want to wash etc. I have loads of nappies so that I don't have to worry about it. I just wash when I have enough for a full load, usually every 3 days at the moment, but I am due with DC2 soon so hope to wash everyday or 2 at the most. Depends on how many you can afford really.

My daughter is just 5 months old and I'd love to try them.

I would go for it - you still have plenty of time to save loads of money!

Also, do you know if anywhere would sell me one or two nappies to see how I get on with them.

Most nappy sites sell them indervidually, and so do mothercare. I always buy them second hand though so they are cheaper and means that I don't loose much if/when I sell them on. There is a part of this site for selling washable nappies and you can put a wanted on there. I have got them for as cheap as £5 before so definatly worth keeping an eye out for them.

I hope that helps.

Browny just saw this, feel free to contact me through my website (i have an ad in the small business ads) but basically soont2be has said it all. Most nappy sellers sell them individually and are few of us are mumsnetters too .
