Outdoorsy to make the most of the weather but not hiking up and down mountains with children in bags on our backs or anything mad and exhausting like that....

camping? initial outlay but cheapish thereafter?

TotalChaos · 16/03/2009 11:05

a nice haven site - if you pick it right you'll have a swimming pool, beach, playground and soft play on site.

Another one to second Isle of Wight. We got a cottage near Ventnor on an old rare breeds farm. Cottage was a fairly modern bungalow connected to another ... but best bit was there was a mini adventure playground in the garden and you could do a very manageable walk (my 2.5 could do it easily) down to a beach ... it was fairly reasonable too ... £350 for a week for 3 bedrooms. Plus IoW is so small, it's really accessible and don't need to have hours in the car. I love it. Will try to find cottage and post link ...

Where do you live?

I really rate Pembrokeshire/Tenby. If the weather is great you are in a fab spot, if it's not there is plenty to do too. Dorset also for the same reasons. Cornwall/North Wales less so imho as reliant on good weather for activities I found.

thank you so much everyone for all your replies. We're in london. I have to confess that I'm not really sure what sort of activities are an option if the weather is bad . I will google all your ideas now!!

Pontins are great with kids in all weathers, and good when you are on a budget too, thet usually have special offers on their website

Well in/near Tenby there is a softplay, Folly Farm which has in door areas, Oakwood theme park place with indoor stuff, a Dinosaur park BUT obviously you need not do any of that if the weather is good!

Same sort of thing in Dorset, plenty of family attractions with indoor stuff if the weather is crap.

We stayed here, cottages on Tredethick farm in Cornwall, with similar aged little ones and had a wonderful week. Daily animal feeding, a lovely indoor pool and indoor and outdoor playrooms. We went to the Eden project, cycled along the camel trail, went for a few walks and visited pretty seaside villages. Accommodation was lovely though not cheap. There are other similar places around.

at that age the only need a beach, a good one with dunes and rock pools and they will be so happy

nickschick · 17/03/2009 07:38

Hemsby near Great Yarmouth is very old fashioned with lotsof little rides for weenies and a gorgeous beach with dunes.
