reassuring 3yr old after unplanned hospital stay

My little man is nearly 3 and unfortunately prone to febrile convulsions, so every feverish bug is more of a drama than it would normally be.

This time we called an ambulance when he was running 39 temp, shivering uncontrollably and giggling at nothing. They couldn't pin cause of temp down so admitted us to the paediatric ward. Unfortunately because they were very busy we weren't sent up from A&E till gone 11 (arrived at 8ish) then not assessed on ward till after midnight. DS having fallen asleep then woke in an X-ray room having chest X-ray at 2am. They also took blood and getting the cannula in at 3am was enormously distressing.

Not surprisingly he did have a febrile convulsion in the midst of all this but that was to some extent the least of it as he was not conscious of having it. The actual investigations have I think left him very distressed. In the end it was dead ordinary tonsilitis which responded to antibiotics.

He hasn't talked much about it but his behaviour since recovering is quite explosive and tantrum-prone to say the least.

Any ideas as to how I can make him feel more secure over the next few weeks? As he isn't openly discussing the hospital trip I am cautious of reminding him constantly of how nasty it was - but I am sure there is a very scared little boy somewhere in his head.

Thank you
