Swimming Lessons!!!!!!

DD is 3.8. I've put her in a small swimming class (6 if they all trun up) with a lovely teacher who gets into the pool with them.

DD has always loved water - as long as it's the "baby pool" - she doen't like going into the "big pool" I did manage to get her into the big pool, but she only feels safe if she is wearing a swimming ring - armbands don't make her feel safe enough.

She has sobbed though the 2 lessons that she has had. (Despite being quite keen to have har first lesson, and climbing into the big pool)she has clung to her teacher, and kicked her legs as asked etc, but obviously not been happy.

She's asked tonight that I speak to her teacher and say that she's not going to lessons any more("please mummy" in a heart breaking way)

DS2 yelled though his first 2 swimming lessons, but after that was fine, and has been a happily having lessons since.

WWYD?

Carry on jollying her along, and if so how long for?

Or - say "OK sweet heart, if you don't want to go into the big pool you don't have to".

DS has a swimming lesson at the same time, so we will be going anyway, and I can swim some leanths while she is in her lesson, so I'm not a million miles away. (Is that a good or a bad thing?)

Arrrgh! Please advise!

stick at it. dd was the same and now loves her lessons.

ds had one term of lessons at 3, the second term was with a teacher he didn't like and then they buggered off anyway so we got a refund.

it put him off completely and now dh takes him, but for messing around rather than much swimming - unless i'm there, i take him into big pool with one of those foam stick things.

foam stick things are excellent - apart from when other kids nick them.

OK - I'm going for another week of her fussing. With lots of praise afterwards (and a reward - I've bought her one of those swim fin floats and some new pool toys)

I would take her yourself in between lessons, if you could go at least once a week, preferably twice, itwould help. Have lots of fun and splashing.

We do go on Sundays as well (I must admit I do prefer floating aroung int the small pool myself, because it's lovely and warm

But there were no tears today in the lesson today (lots of "please no Mummy" this morning though, and crying beofre the lesson )

She even managed swim with just a noodle, adn to jump in.

I think having only one other child in the class helped (Maybe the others didn'tturn up becuase they didnt' want to hear her screaming!)

LS how much did you pay for your swim fin? The cheapest I've found is £16.90 delivered on Ebay.
