Preparing BG nappies for the first time use - any tips?

Sorry if this is a daft question. I have 24 BG arriving in the post soon, and (taking the advice of the great vendor!) I will only be washing a few of them to try them on DD2 before washing the rest for the new arrival of DC3, in case they don't suit us.

I have read that 'real' nappies need to be washed 3 or 4 times before they are used for the first time, but had a few queries:

  1. Is this just with the 1/4 detergent dose as people seem to be saying for general cloth nappy washing?
  1. Does this mean that I just put the wash load on 3 or 4 times in a row? Or does it mean that I have to wash and DRY the nappies 3 or 4 times?
  1. What temperature do I wash them on?
  1. Do they need extra rinses on every wash, or just the last one?
  1. Any tips/ things I have forgotton?

Thank you

Excited

You only really need to wash BGs once to get rid of factory/handling residues. It is natural fibres like hemp, bamboo and cotton that need to be washed several times before they reach full absorbency.

40Ëš is good, but I've been told that when washing for a baby and toddler it is better to wash at 60Ëš when there is toddler poo around. An occasional wash at 60Ëš is also good for shifting stains (as is sunlight).

So much for the cute little 'degrees' sign then! For 40Ëš read 40 degrees...
