OU students - Do you go to optional tutorials?

All the tutorials on my course are optional, and they are held in the evening. I have not been to any of them because I need to ensure that dh is home to babysit. Also, I am shattered come the evening and the last thing I want to do is go out in the dark when I could be at home having a cooked meal and a glass of wine.

Am I the only one who does not go to tutorials?

I have studied witht he OU for 3 years (this is my 4th) and have yet to go to a tutorial. From the students who attend them I gather they are useful but not necessary to get decent grades. You could also ask your tutor to provide you witht he handout they give at the tutorials that way atleast you know what was discussed.

i studied for 8 years and never went to one tutorial - they were always held about 1 hour's drive from my house.

came out unscathed and still got my degree.

as leo says i always asked for the handout

I love them

Although mine have always been on a Saturday in my home town, so not a biggie to get there.

I did one course where they did not have any tutorials, and in my end of course review I went crazy about it, still passed the course though

I do, but mine are on a Saturday afternoon.

I don't because mine are more than two and half hours away by public transport. For a two-hour tutorial.

I studied with the OU for 4 years, I only ever went to one tutorial. I managed fine without them, BUT the one I did go to was so fantastic and helpful, so I suppose the point is, go if you can, but you will also be fine if you cannot!

I've gone to all of them even though it means my working day is 16 hours long those days. They are always in the tiniest rooms so I guess they don't expect many people to go. I go as I find it useful to ask questions (not much good at emailing tutor) and good tips given for forthcoming TMAs.

Ours are in the evening and I go straight from work so it is a late night and no dinner! I also miss seeing my ds. Ours are on Thursday evenings so it means not seeing my ds from Wednesday evening until Friday morning which is hard.
