Baby bottom cleanser

I have just bought some reuseable wipes for my DS and the packet says to use with a baby cleanser or water - not that I am lazy but I don't want to have to go to the bathroom to get water every time I do a nappy change and would prefer to have something to hand.

Does anyone know what sort of thing I should buy? Any recommendations please?

Thanks!

Hi, I've never posted before so hope I'm doing this 'right'!

I use reusable wipes for my 14 week DD and make my own wipe solution from camomile tea, a drop of lavender oil and a tablespoon of baby oil. I think you can also make them from water, baby oil (or sweet almind oil) and a drop of baby bath or similar.

I put the wipes in a reusable wipe box that came in my Bounty pack and just pour the wash over it. It needs changing every couple of days, but I find I easily finish a box of wipes in this time

I just have a bowl of water by the changing unit, which I change a couple of times a day (or more if necessary)

pushme you're doing it right!! Can I have the quantities of your own wipe solution please?? I hope its not a secret

Hi,
I also use the camomile tea combo, putting in Tea tree oil & a little honey. (I'm gradually adding things as DD has sensitive skin, and I want to know what's OK & what's not). I use one tea bag in 1 pint water, a couple of drops of essential oil and a teaspoon of honey. I keep mine in a washed out liquid soap dispenser, half by the change mat & half in the fridge for later.
The 'Nappy Lady' website has lots of good suggestions, I think it's in the 'articles' or 'how to' section. Hope that helps.

When I go to change a nappy, I turn on the kitchen tap. Then I get the other bits and bobs while the water heats. I run a couple of wipes under the tap and go change the nappy. I don't find it a big inconvenience as we keep all the nappy bits on top of the tumble dryer in the kitchen anyway

I used washable wipes and although I started out trying to make wipe solutions, I got a bit lazy and soon stopped bothering. After that I would either just wet them under the tap for a quick clean up or use a small squirt of Johnson's baby lotion on the wipe which worked brilliantly (especially on sticky poo!) leaving a lovely soft bottom!

Second the bounty box as useful for washable wipes (do you think the company would like to know that, ha ha). I only used water though, got bored trying to make solutions. tea tree and lavender oil poss worth avoiding on boys (some people think they contain hormone mimicing compounds IIRC).

ChocOrange05 · 14/03/2009 20:02

Very intrigued at the hormone mimicing compounds noolia??

My 'recipe' (although that's maybe a rather ambitious description!) is two mugs of camomile tea to one small squirt of baby wash, four drops of lavender oil and a large splosh (probably about a tablespoon) of baby oil or sweet almond oil depending on how 'earth mother' I am feeling . I either shake it all up and pour it over the wipes or keep it in a spray bottle next to the changing table.

Hadn't heard of the hormone mimicing properties of lavender before . Fortunately I have a girl

tassisssss · 14/03/2009 22:12

baby lotion's good if you're too lazy to make your own...

mumoftoby · 14/03/2009 22:21

noolia I avoid lavender with my boys too as I have been told that it can cause problems. I was also told that tea tree can affect hormones?

mumoftoby · 14/03/2009 22:23

oh - and I use a pampers sensitive wipe plastic box at home and a lttle red huggies travel wipes plastic tub for the change bag.

ChocOrange05 · 15/03/2009 08:39

I have made a potion including lavender now What should I use instead?? I did make camomile tea, lavender oil and sweet almond oil. Any ideas??

lavender oil and boy boobies article I don't think it's exactly a panic, but just shows that 'natural' things are chemicals too! I think I used a bit of apricot kernel oil in the water and some camomile. Essential oils should be used at very dilute concentration and with care.

If you google you will find lists of essential oils with supposed benefits and who should avoid them.
