TheNatty · 10/03/2009 15:32

i have bought a BTP wonderoo nappy.
first time i put it on she wet through it at the front and the back was still completly dry.

am i right in thinking i dont have to use a wrap with these or is this where im going wrong?
any special washing procedures im missing? its a brand new one so do i need to wash a few times for the outer to be waterproof?

thanks guys

The insert wont be at full absorbancy for 3 washes or so, so will need a couple more

iwontbite · 10/03/2009 15:35

you don't need a wrap, but they do need a LOT of pre-washing.
I hated mine at first, but after aw hile it has become one of my faves.

what probably happened is she did a big wee and it has leaked because it hasn't been absorbed quickly enough by the inner.
so I would put them through the wash a good 3-4 times and they ought to be a lot better.

What insert are you using? You don't have to use the Wonderfull ones - there are lots better!

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 11/03/2009 18:59

are they hemp or microterry inserts?

TheNatty · 11/03/2009 20:56

microfibre i think, feels like it

is it the insert thats the problem? its just that the outside of the wrap was drenched as well, im used to a motherease two part system and the wraps never leaked even if the nappy was DRENCHED.

ive got loads of the mothercare smart nappy inserts which are cotton and microfibre, so i can substitute these for a while and bung the new inserts in with each wash for a week to make sure they are at optimum.

I'd try a bamboo one. Hemp is slow to absorb, and microfibre is bulky, and also can squeeze out when compressed.

Babeco bamboo night time pads are excellent, but quite bulky, and P'tits Dessous flexible bamboo inserts, are really slim, and relatively quick drying. Also excelent are Ethangelie bamboo inserts - they do a day time and a night time one.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 12/03/2009 16:29

natty did you get both inserts with it - have you tried poppering the newbron one onto the full size on to give a but more umph..

TheNatty · 12/03/2009 16:52

yes have tried both. ive got 5 different pocket nappies and have the same problem with all of them, they are leaking, particulary yaround the legs, im thinking she is a heavier wetter and the mircofibre isnt up to it? i had the same problem with smart nappies, wetting through.

ive got a tots bot pocket which is terry i think given the texture and how long its taken to dry, so i will give that a bash next.
ive ordered a bamboo booster, generic ebay one.

any tips? if she is indeed a heavy wetter bamboo or hemp better?

not bothered about bulk or drying times, i have a tumble dryer and she wears dresses

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 12/03/2009 17:02

ahhhh but is she wearign tights with her dresses? tights are very close fitting and wicking is really a problem - also as they squeeze them in the microterry insert will just squeeze out - compression wicking......... is this possible?

TheNatty · 12/03/2009 17:10

no, no tights, not ventured out the house with them on yet not confident they wont leak, been putting her in her 2 part system whilst out.

poppered vests??? they pull up too?

TheNatty · 12/03/2009 20:59

nope she outgrew the last lot, she wears normal ones now (even if she does then take her nappies off little bugger!)

im still having terrible trouble, she is always damn between the legs, even though the outside of the nappy is dry.
its almost as if the fleece is drawing the wetness from the insert past the elastic and down the legs.

not impressed

Natty I don't get on with pockets either - DS always leaks wee within an hour. I have wonderoos, nb stuffables and a slinki minki. They ALL leak

TheNatty · 13/03/2009 09:23

only one thats been any good so far is the fuzzibunz, and i have 5 others that are leaking within the hour. its awful
i am very dispointed, i prefered my two parters, so i think DH will have to put up with the MEOS system, cos this is far to much work!

It's the frill - it seems to wick so often! IMO the p'tits dessous mini-maxi is a far better option that a Wonderoo TBH. There's no frill, and it adjusts both smaller and a LOT bigger than a Wonderoo. NMuch better in the rise, and that helps to stop leaks as well!

TheNatty · 13/03/2009 21:33

i was looking for some of them, but couldnt find any uk stockers. point me in the right direction?
