big bump on my dd's forehead. feeling nervous

my dd, 20 months, knocked her head very hard against the side of the loo and now has a huge lump on her forehead. Am panicking as I hate it when she hits her head and she has never had a big bump before. It happened 3 hours ago now. She hasn't been sick and is now asleep. She played very happily for 2 hours afterwards. What should I look out for? very worried as is night time now and so she is sleeping and I cant watch for any change in behaviour.

Big lump is good , probably nada to worry about!
As forehead (almost) as hard as loo bowl and not v well upholstered, any swelling goes OUTWARDS rather than inwards which may not be pretty, but is rather safer for the poor brain. In general, bumps to face safer than bumps to back of head.
As she was ok afterwards, behaving normally, not sick etc she should be ok.
The bump may turn into a bruise which in turn may sink down and depending were it is, may look like black eye in a few days.

Hope she is ok. Any worries, obviously get her checked out (usual HCP disclaimer )

Thanks Mummyfor3. I guess the first bump is the worst and I know I have many more scares like this to come!!

I would say if she wasn't sick and played happily for two hours then she's fine.

Why don't you put her in beside you or stick a mattress in her room for yourself? (That's what I used to do when I was worrying over a slight temperature...imagining febrile convulstions and all sorts!!)

convulsions not convulstions!

Must proofread.

Our flat is quite small so with the door open and the monitor on high volume we can pretty much hear everything. She cried a lot when it happened. Don't they say that that is a good sign?

Yep, crying a lot, comforted in the normal kind of time frame, normal play/meal/bedtime and then good sleep - Tis all good!

DS2 was a late and clumsy walker and went through a phase were he was never without at least 2 impressive bumps of varying degrees of maturity. He is now 5 (tomorrow, yeah!!) and seems none the worse for it!

Hope you have a good night.
