Cloth nappies at nursery

DS2 (10 months) is soon going to start at nursery. They will do cloth nappies there. At home he is mainly in homemade nappies (essentially a customised bumble) that use a nappy nipper (sp??). I don't think they would be able to cope with these.

The obvious solution is an AIO. However, we haven't had much success with bum genius or other AIOs, probably because he is a very very wriggly heavy wetter.

So what experience have people had with sending their babies to nursery in cloth nappies? What nappies would you recommend?

i was best with either wee notions or bumgenius pockets

ds goes in bumbles and a nipper. they manage pretty well. they have more leaks than we do, i suspect due to leaving the liner sticking out, but it's not a major problem.

i drew the line at washable liners for them though, and bought disposables.

the wash bags you can buy from nappy lady are good. means they can just put the nappies in and you throw them in the wash at home. (in theory, in reality i remove them from the nappy bags and then put them in the wash, but it's still v handy.)

When ds started nursery I offered to go in and show his key worker how his nappies worked. Although most of his nappies were popper TotsBots, occasionally I had to send him in a nippa one. The nursery has been really good, especially as cloth nappies are seen as a bit beardy-weirdy round here.

As DriedOutPlaydough said, you get a few more leaks than at home. I also sent disposable liners.

A lot of nurseries won't use wetbags, they say it is more hygienic to nappy bag them.

Thinking about it, we did have occasions when I forgot and put in shaped with nippa and they coped fine.

I noticed that although the bumgenius were most like disposables to use, they nearly always opted for the prettier ones

thank you all so much. I will try them on our homemade bumbles and see what happens. I have got a few bumgenius, but find that DS2 soaks through them in about 1.5 hours!

I will try to get them to use a wet bag, but I'm not optimistic!

Ds always wore MEOS to nursery, but at one point there were 4 cloth bottomed babies in his room and one of them used full terry squares with a nippa. The staff were perfectly happy with using those.

After a few reminders that they didn't need to use nappy bags, they were happy to use the wet bag

thanks - I am considering MEOS (we have a few in our vast collection). They are my Mum's favourite. She can't manage the nippa nappies, which is why I thought the nursery wouldn't be able to manage

thanks again everyone. This has been immensely helpful!

Hi, I agree with funtimewincies idea of showing the key worker at nursery how to change the nappy, that way you can send him in the nappy of your choice.
I own and manage a day nursery and our attitude has always been to follow parents wishes wherever possible, nursery is supposed to be home from home after all. Always best for both parents and nurseries to be willing to chat and learn from each other I reckon.

I have bought quite a few wonderoos mainly for nursery use, but they seemed willing to try 2 parters etc.
