going backwards, do we go back to nappies?

V frustrated, started 2 weeks ago, 4 days at home quite a few hits and some misses on the potty rewards stickers etc. Howevever this week more accidents, dd (2.6) just weeing in knickers and not asking for the potty.

tbh after the initial progress we seem to be going backwards, she's a lot more co-operative for dh so on my day off with her it's a bit of a nightmare. The beginning of this week was a small success then 3 days at nursery and back to square 1 all accidents, not asking for the potty etc.

She's been great with poos not so good with wees, I think she's ready goes 2 hours+ without a wee, wakes up dry in the morning and lets us know when she needs a poo until this weekend, it seems to have become a power struggle she's v strong willed.

Bit cross with nursery as was going well at home then no joy there, especially after they said they were surprised as "she's so bright and advanced we thought she would have got it straight away!".

Shall I jack it in? Nursery think I should just persevere with the kniceksr until she gets it?

Any suggestions, sorry for long and incoherent post, pg and having dizzy spells!

I wouldn'y jack it in
but I would ONLY give praise (and lots of it)
when she gets it right

change her without comment
and try REALLY hard not to get stressed about it

hi minx
this was us a couple of weeks ago. was advised by some friends to perservere (which i did) and i have to say that we seem back on track, through much prompting by me, do you need to use the potty etc.... its not perfect by any means and if dd is engrossed in something then she is likely to wet herself, but i figure its a huge thing to gain control over, so i'm trying to remain laid back about it (not always successfully i might add ) i'm pg too, so its a big motivator for me to see it through and get her potty trained!!, but am also expecting a regression when bubba arrives.
dont think the nursery comment was particularly helpful tbh, not an indication of her intelligence fgs

I agree I would persist, it does take a while for them to 'get it' and there will be loads of accidents along the way.

Make sure it's a bit of a game, try putting teddies/dolls on the potty to see if they will wee, and then let her have a go, personally, I would leave her knickers off.

Make lots of fuss when she gets it right and be completely matter of fact about accidents.

Fwiw, my ds wore his last daytime nappy on his second birthday, but it was probably another 3/4 months before he was completely reliable. Keep at it you'll get there.

thanks for your reassuring and helpful messages, having done a trawl of threads and websites it seemed that everyones dc was done and dusted in 2 weeks and that my dd is late to even be starting!

Bollocks , they are just boasting.

minxofmancunia · 09/03/2009 10:59

I have noticed a couple of my friendswith older dcs tweak the truth a bit when talking about this issue and take a few months off from when they "got it", e.g. I can remember my friend struggling when her dd was 2.8 but according to her now she managed no probs before she was 2 1/2!!

it is true that alot of people 'forget' what really happened or are just boasting

BUT and go on let me have a little boast
Gecko choose to take off her nappy and never put it on again 2 weeks before her second birtday (she was two on the 7th)

All I did was lift her onto the toilet when she asked and not force her to have a nappy on (which would have required sitting on her lol)

she amazed me and I am still totally gobsmacked

First two days she did a couple of wees in her pants but asked for the loo straight away and seemed upset about it and on the second day she also pooed on the front room floor,, told me and THEN CLEANED IT UP HERSELF!!!!

seriously I have never been so shocked
I never beleived it when people had told me their child had trained them selves

Also dd1 and 2 (Gecko is dd3) took months and months and months to get it and they didn't even start until they were past 2 and a half. I t was hell
I reckon Gecko was my easy one for having such a tough time with the other two
Hang on in there, just ALOT of praise for doing it right
