Potty Training strike - back to nappies or should I give it another try?

My ds 2.6 yrs has been in pants for nearly 3 months but is now having lots of wee accidents and not bothering to tell me before he needs to go or after he has been. Initially he did very well with the wees with only a few accidents and he would come and tell me when he needed to go. Gradually he has been asking less and less. As a result I have been asking him if he needs a wee more often. Everything is a power struggle at the moment and normally he will say no - of course then 2 mins later an accident. The last few days have been even worse with numerous accidents. Yesterday I put him in pull ups and he didn't bother to tell me at all. Physically he is ready as he can hold it quite a long time and quite often wakes up dry in the morning. He is now refusing to go potty /toilet at all. This morning his nappy was dry so I asked him lets go to the tiolet and he said no - now there was no way on earth he didn't need to go. It doesn't feel right to put him back in nappies but when is it time to call it a day for while. What solutions have worked for others? Also he won't poo on potty or toilet just goes in his pants. Haven't made a big deal of this but have put him in pull ups if I am going somewhere it would be am issue.
Sorry its so long

ellie - we had to stop when my ds was that age and then we started again nearer to his 3rd birthday and it only took a couple of days.

Saying that though I think they can get confused if they are in pullups some of the time and pants at others. I havent used them successfully - but then am sure other people will come along who have.

I have similar issue. We started potty training on 1 January and she has been doing so well but since Tuesday just refuses to sit on the toilet. Has a tantrum saying she doesn't want to go and then has an accident a few minutes later. What have I done wrong when everything was going so well?

my son was so like this, perfectly capable but WOULD not go.

all i can say is BRIBE BRIBE BRIBE

sticker charts and a packet of sweets after dinner IF no accidents all day, big pressie at the end of the week? (we got him a toy from pound land and the corner shop, so need not be expensive)

also make him clear up his own puddles, my son soon got bored of that i can tell you!

HTH, potty training is hard isnt it?
