cloth nappy leak query ?? I don't get it..

Hey all - I'm a first time mam and have been happily using my cloth nappies since birth however just the last few weeks (my ds is 5 months now) he has started to leak on a night time.

I use the hemp ellas house nappy with a motherease wrap. At first I thought it was the wrap getting too small and the back of the nappy was sticking out and wicking into his baby gro - he gets slightly damp on his back - so I bought a bigger wrap so that there is no way this can happen - but he is still sometimes damp.

Then I thought it may need more stuffing so I added an extra filler but he was still damp one day when the stuffing still had some capacity.

I am really confused and don't want to have to use a disposable on a night time but I can't work out what is going on - any ideas?

p.s. it is not every night and it is only dampness not wet - in fact sometimes I notice it in the night and it has nearly dried by the morning.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I dont answer straight away however, I may be off the computer for a couple of hours..

is he a back sleeper? you could try an extra bit of padding across the top back of the nappy inside the wrap? what sort of booster did you use?

Thanks for responding trufflebum. Funnily enough I actually tried that last night before I read your post. I am using a number of different types of booster. Last night I had 3 in and the outside of the hemp nappy was actually dry - only the boosters were wet - yet he still had a damp back - so I think it must be the wrap.

It's a motherease airflow and it's definitely big enough - I've only had it a couple of months as it is a M/L and it's still a bit big on him - is there any way I can check it is the wrap do you think?

I haven't washed it on a high heat or put it on a radiator - are there any other things which ruin wraps?

Thanks again

p.s. he is a back sleeper and last night I used a ellas house hemp booster an itti bitti d'lish insert (across the bum) and another bamboo booster...

Prob an obvious one, but the label's definately not sticking out the back of the wrap? That's the only prob with the Motherease's I've found so far, that label can escape and wick...

I've had that problem too but I've double checked that the last couple of times and unless it is coming out during the night and then tucking back in I don't think that's the problem.. Thanks though Mamacita

I guess I'll have to buy another wrap and see what happens.

My son is a sweaty little devil and he can get a bit damp on his back and round his neck at night. It's normally dry by morning. When he was in cotton at night he tended to get sweaty round the top of his nappy. Is this a possibility with your lo?

yes i second the sweatyness, particulary in the motherease wraps, i found they made my babies sweaty. try another type rather then pul, fleece was good for me. ive heard good things about wool wraps, but i think you have to waterproof them every few weeks so i havent tried them (couldnt be bothered to be honest)
