Where am I going wrong? (leaking)

I'm using xs sandys, fleece liner and xs motherease airflow wrap for dd2 who is 6lb 5oz.

The nappies are new but wraps are 2nd hand, could it be that the elastic isn't what it was? How close fitting should the wrap be? DD2 does have skinny wee legs.

Have you washed the new nappies at least 3x ???? When I had DD2 (who was 6lb 1 oz) I used new motherease one size and no one had told me they needed repeated washing to get them up to full absorbancy and I had lots of leaks (she was rather small for them too which didn't help). Anyway, I posted a similar message, got a response telling me to wash them 3 or 4 times, and never looked back (although she was over 7lb by the time I got all that sorted and started using them again). No advice if you have already done this.....

Ooh I didn't know that Nelly, they've only been washed once- will try that.

Re, the airflow wraps- should they be tight around legs? They're a bit baggy around dd's!

Yes definatly wash them a few times before use if they were brand new? If they were second hand then they won't need that.

And no - they shouldn't be baggy - there shouldn't be any gaps or anything. Is that where you are getting the leaks?

There are no gaps with the nappy but the wrap is baggy around the legs which is where it's leaking, soon2be.

Oh ok. Well I would give them a good few washes and see how you go. How wet are the nappies when they leak? You are using good quality wrap and nappies so you shouldn't get leaks - so please don't let it put you off!

You might need a wrap that fits closer in the legs. Motherease are made to be looser fitting in the legs. Something like a nappy elite or a cotton bottom (bummis) without gussets would likely be a better fit on a slim legged baby.
Don't give up though, the trick with cloth is to find what suits and then go with it. With some babies it takes a few tries to find the best fit option.

Ah now I have 1 old cotton bottom that dd1's baby doll wears! I've just been to get it and it looks so small compared to the motherease. I'll give it a try tomorrow, thanks.
