Swim Nappies

I have bought a 'splash about' swim nappy for my 4 month old DS ready for his baby swimming class which starts tomorrow. Now, excuse my ignorance, but is this meant to be worn over a nappy or on it's own? I usually use reusable nappies but if it's to go over the top I guess I will need to buy some disposables ?

All advice gratefully received

On it's own but don't expect it to keep wees in- it just traps the solids ('sposie swim nappies are the same in this respect)

I use mine with a swim nappy underneath. I think you can probably use them without though. Most baby swim classes have guidance on nappies. The one I go to insists on a splash about with a nappy underneath. Might be worth checking with them ?

if it is with waterbabies - they insist on a huggies little swimmer underneath!

The lady I spoke to from Splash About said to wear a huggies ls underneath; worked beautifully for DS. Have fun!

Disposable swim nappy underneath.

The reason many swim schools say use a Huggies underneath is because they are sponsored by Huggies!
The best re-usable swim nappy IMO is the Popolino (Motherease) one. Neoprene ones aren't necessary, unless you pool specifies it won't allow them in without one. And anyway, you'd be better getting a neoprene wetsuit, which will keep their whole body warm as well, than getting a neoprene nappy cover. I certainly wouldn't advise a neoprene one on it's own, because if THAT gets filled, it's a NIGHTMARE to remove from a wet baby! Go for popup swimnappies - they last forever (velcro degrades in chlorine) and is easy to remove if it does get filled.

I'm a specialist baby swimming teacher myself, so I do know what I'm talking about BTW!

Urggh no, the Splash About is supposed to go over a disposable/reusable nappy, I wouldn't use it without one. I've just started using Tots Bots swim nappy which is really lovely.
