Ok. My ds is 16 month and I wanted to buy a potty for him so he gets familiar with it and maybe practise sitting on it and read a story or something. BUT I had no idea which one to choose so left the shops without any.
Could you please recommend a potty you've been happy with? Simple ordinary one? A chair-like? I quite liked that one. Special effect one? ....thanks

I have the baby bjorn one I think it is, like a chair with a removable bit to throw wee away (quite handy really) its big but comfortable and all 3 of mine have used it!

We have two cheap and cheerful ones - one from Tescos and the other from Mothercare. Not into sitting and reading on pottys, so no need for a chair one imo

We have the chair one from Mothercare and are pretty happy with it.

I started out with one of the small ones from Mothercare, but DD found it difficult to get on and off easily - the chair was much easier, especially when she was in a hurry. We take the small one with us when we go out, though.

I have got one called Commfy cushy 3 in 1 potty (I think!) from John Lewis, but also available online for £20, well worth every penny! It is bit taller than standard, more potty chair dimensions and the first one my DD is prepared to stay sat on.

Started off with cheap, basic ones from Mothercare and Ikea but she would barely stay on either for a minute. However, they are great now for sitting dolly / teddy on which she likes to do!

The 3 in 1 has a removable potty section, a removable squishy seat (reversible for boy or girl - raised bit for boy), can be put on toilet as trainer seat and with lid closed acts as a step stool. I am in the midst of training DD who is 2 and half and we're making good progress with this one. I agree, it's a minefield trying to choose and I thought a basic one would be enough and actively avoided the kind of thing we've ended up getting! Have to admit though, DD is tall and those little ones look v uncomfortable for her!

My advice, get a little basic one for a couple of quid (rounded edges) since your DS is much younger / smaller, you may find that perfectly adequate and if not it'll be good for travel etc and teddy! Step up to a potty chair / seat type thing if he doesn't take to it and is perhaps older. Good luck!

For boys it needs to come up high in front or the wee goes all over the floor. We have this one and it's great!

I had a 99p one from Morrisons. And got DS to poke his willy down.

We had a chair one because, somehow, you can be a lot more accurate throwing the contents down the loo from the removable "bowl" than you can with a full sized potty.

But we also had a potty upstairs - one on each floor of the house for when things were urgent.

And another cheap one in a carrier bag on the buggy, permanently ready for trips out. I put a label "potty bag" on this carrier bag, just incase DH took it upon himself to put food shopping in it (stranger things have happened).
