Has anyone done Human Biology level 2 OU course?

I am thinking of doing this in October but haven't studied any science since GCSE about 16 years ago! How did/do you find it? I have only done maths courses so far and want to do some science but don't really want to do any at level 1 as I have enough points at that level already.

Thanks in advance for any help

yes I did SK277 a couple of years ago. I had a bit of an advantage as I had done a couple of short courses beforehand and I also used to be an OU science tutor (but on the physics/chem side) so I was well used to the system.

Is it still a 30 pointer? Tbh I found it hard to get the time. I had 2 ds at that point and ended up putting them in a local creche or with a childminder for extra hours whenever an assignment came up, and missing out big chunks of material if not covered in the assignment. Not my ideal way of studying but being a mum does change the way you do things! And it had an exam at the end - does it still? That was a big shock. I think one of the boys was ill during the fortnight I was planning to do most of my revision, so I reckoned I had only done a quarter of what I should have done. But I got 70% in the end so I was very happy.

You could try a science short course before Oct to get you into it, so it's not such a shock, because it is quite different to maths where you know there is one right answer at the end. Even having taught S103 I found I often chose different bits to emphasise to the parts that mattered in the marking scheme (iyswim). The short courses aren't too expensive and might be a real help (imho).

I am studying SK277 at the moment. I have done a mix of maths and science courses to date.

Firstly - I am finding the work load is heavy. There is so much detail! There are 4 assignments and an exam with this course.

The course is really enjoyable because you just marvel at the workings of the human body. I hadnt done biology since 16 and the small amount I did in S103.

Why dont you go to your regional centre and take a look at some of the books.

Its not so much the complexity its the volume. Also agree with mummypig - very different ball game to maths where there is 1 answer. My essay writing skills this year have been seriously put to the test!

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful. Yes, good idea about doing a short course, I think I might do that. It is 30 points but I would be overlapping so at one point would be doing 3 30 points at once! And my essay writing skills are very out of practice.

I will see if I can go and look at some course materials murphyslaw. It does sound quite hard going but I am still interested.
