How do I regain the upper hand when changing?

My 14mth DD is being a pain when I try to change her trying to escape often succeeding (am changing her on the floor as it's safer) and then either having a tantrum when I try to force a new nappy on or running off giggling.

This morning she added a new one to the repertoire - going off mid change, sitting down and starting to read a book. When I tried to tell her to come back and get the new nappy she just looked up, passed me a book and went back to reading her own book.

aargh any tips on how I can regain the upper hand?

pull ups - much quicker and easier

I change mine on my lap - as you undo their nappy one of your arms goes across them anyway which helps keep them still.

haha - I defy you to do that to my DS3 mumoftoby - he's a big (strong) boy and even one of DH's strong arms across him isn't enough to stop the arms and legs flaily so wildly that you can't get a nappy on

I use pull-ups and we make a game of it running round the room

I give dd3(17m) something to hold like the bum cream, or a toy and get on with it as quick as possible
