At what ages should a brother and sister stop sharing baths?

I'm just interested in opinions really. My two are 3 (ds) and 7 months (dd) so it's not something that I need to think about for a while but I'm just wondering for the future. Do you think it's different for siblings of the same sex?

I would be happy for my 10yo DS to have a bath with his 3yo sister, but I don't think he would be happy with it. I think they tend to let you know when they want/need privacy.

DS2 is 5 and hates sharing a bath with her, but that's just because he wants it all to himself.

Don't worry about it. They will tell you when they don't want to any more. My brother was about 8 when we stopped sharing - I was nine and couldn't have cared less, but he got all self-conscious.

frumpygrumpy · 04/03/2009 19:51

My children are.....DD1 who is 8 and mixed b/g twins who are 4.5, if DD1 fancies a bath instead of a shower we can have any mix of children in the bath (although gone are the days when I could fit all three in together). In our house, if there is time for a long bath, they each love a play in there. If we only have time for a quickie, they share, any which way or I conveyor belt them

I guess the time to stop sharing will be when one of your children asks or has a problem. My b/g DTs still share and play in the bath together. And often there is too much nonsense though and we end up dovetailing.

No hard and fast rules in this house.

I still share with my brother.

coochicoo · 04/03/2009 19:53

I'm hoping they'll let me know. I can't remember how old me and my sister were when we stopped bathing together.

THAT WAS A JOKE BTW!

fruitful · 04/03/2009 19:54

Yep, when one of them gets embarrassed.

Or when you have too many to fit in all at once, of course.

Or when the big ones get fed up with the baby throwing plastic ducks at them.

Or when one of them discovers the joy of standing under the shower for hours, singing High School Musical.

at the age of 7 i didn't bath with my siblings any more. twas the best birthday present ever! ds is nearly 10 and we are still waiting for modesty to kick in. i don't allow him to bath with his sisters but only because he takes up too much room and splashes too much.

MayorNaze · 04/03/2009 19:55

fruiitful have you met my dd1?!!! she is v fond of HSM in the shower and does vocal exercises a la sharpay and ryan!

LynetteScavo · 04/03/2009 19:56

My siblings refused to share a bath with me after I pooed while sharing a bath with my eldest sister.

Tamarto · 04/03/2009 19:58

Exactly what fruitful said.

I do actually remember it -so I couldn't have been that young.

Othersideofthechannel · 05/03/2009 15:39

6 and 4 here. They don't always want to share because they can't lie down if they share but they mostly still think it's fun.

tibni · 05/03/2009 15:51

dd is 10 and ds is 8 with ASD. They still share sometimes - dd doesn't mind and ds can't ask .

If dd fancies a bath to herself we just give ds a bath first and then he leaves her in peace to have hers.

MmeLindt · 05/03/2009 15:51

6 and 4 here as well, and DD has discovered the shower. She does still bath with DS but wants to wash her hair herself and will often ask to shower instead.

pollycazalet · 05/03/2009 15:54

Mine stopped last year when DS was 8. He wanted more privacy. We put a lock on the bathroom door around the same time (we dn't tend to lock it but ds does.)

haggisaggis · 05/03/2009 16:00

ds is 9 and dd 6.5 - and they still share a bath! Neither of them show any signs of wanting to stop - and since they both wander round the house with no clothes on I think it'll be a while yet.

Guadalupe · 05/03/2009 16:02

I think it gets a bit of a squash at some point too.

LouMacca · 05/03/2009 16:17

My 6 year old twins still share but don't think it will be for much longer as its such a squash with the amount of toys that have in the bath with them!

They will let you know ...

seeker · 05/03/2009 18:09

When they tell you they don't want to any more - there's no should.

My 13 year old dd still lets her little brother get in with her SOMETIMES! It means she can play with the diving penguins and the underwater torch!
