I just don't know when to potty train

My dd is 2.3.
I am in no rush.

She started telling me when she needed a wee or poo at 1.9. I bought a potty. She uses it occasionally, intermittently, for both. I don't push, but do praise.

She knows when she needs to poo, not too sure about wee, though she still tells me if she is going to do it and we are out, I will offer toilet or going in her nappy, and she usually goes in her nappy.

I am a single mum that works full time with a fab nursery that insist on disposables. I use cloth at home which she doesn't like so much (because they feel wet???) - nursery say she doesn't tell them (when in disposables?) if she needs to go.

Ready? Not ready?
Do it when I have a week off work?
Shelve it for a few months?
Sometimes she is really distressed when I say it is ok to go in her nappy, but also sometimes she is equally horrified at being nappy-less. She is certainly "busy being two" as my mother would say!

Any thoughts??? Many many thanks in advance.

Thank you. I think that's what I wanted to do but fed up of hearing, "but she has been using a potty for months" and wondering if I'm lazy!!

Have you bought her some pants? I think they like to know there is a proper alternative to nappies. Agree not to rush it, I think they do it when they're ready and it's quite quick once they do decide.

I haven't. I bought "proper" vests, as in without poppers, so could get trousers down quicker, but not pants. She's small for her age, so I have not seen 18-24mth knickers, but then we live in a little rural place, maybe should look on line?

They absolutely do it when they are ready. DD took us by surprise at 2.3 when camping, she was running round in just a t-shirt and we realised halfway through the afternoon that the potty was full
DS was a bit older, maybe 2.7, but we had been given a bag of hand-me-down clothes. There were a few pairs of age 7-8 boys pants in there, he decided he wanted a pair on (along with an age 7 Chelsea top) and that was it, no more nappies. I can claim no credit at all for potty training him

I would say let her choose some big girls pants and continue to play it cool until she wants to wear them. Also IGNORE EVERYONE who says she should be trained by now (especially older relatives who will claim to have had all 6 of theirs out of nappies by 12 mths - they have foggy memories)

We went cold turkey at 2 and 3 quarters. Before that she'd used the potty sporadically.
When I started it properly, she was old enouugh, I felt, to quickly learn. She wet herself once, couple of poo accidents and touch wood, nothing else.

Oh, don't bother with a toilet insert, she only needed it for a week then got fed up cos the wee kept escaping onto the floor.

I got some tiny 18-24 month knickers from M&S but don't know if they do them online. Anyway as you say there's no rush. I also think it is easier if you can have a bit of time at home together to do it before trying to go without a nappy at nursery.

Worth noting that bigger knickers are easier to pull up and down so don't fret about getting the right size.

Agree with apostrophe, you can prompt by letting her have nappy free time in the house and encouraging her to use the potty, but much much easier if desire to stop wearing nappies is driven by her rather than you.

DS is 2.11 and I was beginning to think he'd never be out of nappies, but surprised all of us by just announcing one day that he didn't want to wear them any more (apart from when he poos which is a different story !)
