What do you do with your toddler during the day?

We usually go for a walk in the afternoon (DD is like a dog and has to run off her energy or she's murder to get to sleep ) but I'm running out of ideas for things to do in the morning. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some uber mummy who has to fill the whole day up DD has just started getting up at half 6 which makes the morning quite long. I find if I do something halfway through it stops her from getting bored and playing up. Atm we've been doing painting and colouring in, but I'd appreciate any new ideas. TIA

Library? Toddlers?
Ds like going out for 'tea' too.

We usually do something 'interesting' in the morning. Swimming, toddler group, gymnastics, meet up with friends. In the afternoon we then do more relaxed stuff such as a walk to the local shop for veg, make dinner together, do housework together, potter in the house etc

a very simple muffin receipe. i have a gluten free one with bananas dd (2) loves putting the bananas and flour in the food processor, making "the noisy" and filling up the muffin tins. Its very messy but fills a morning once a week and she likes presenting them to daddy (the gluten free member of the family).

Shes also recently become a big fan of 15 - 20 piece big jigsaws where we help all down on the floor.

Her all time favourite though is anything to do with the tumble dryer and washing machine loading and unloading

They just shut down a load of libraries in my area, including the one closest to us Funding issues. We do go to a few toddler groups but the children's centres have cut them down too. I've found if we go for a walk in the morning she gets all her energy back after her nap and pottering round doesn't tire her out for bed She's a little livewire Thanks for those ideas, I might take DD out for 'tea,' I think she'd love it I'll try some of your ideas too Reesie, thanks.

Thanks for those ideas too mspotatochip. I want to do more cooking with her actually so I'll give it a go. DD loves helping with the washing machine too, unfortunately it means she messes with it when it's in the middle of a cycle My washing gets washed twice a lot

Can you face doing messy play? They seem to love it

CharCharGabor · 02/03/2009 20:59

Oh I didn't see that ll Thanks. I'll have a look now.

Ta snickersnack, I'll give messy play a go. She does love it. Painting is a massive hit, I just run her straight up to the bathroom afterwards.

dvd???? joke

ds was doing getting fit at nursery this month.

we dug out some old keep fit dvds and videos and have been having great fun with them the last few weeks.. he loves step aerobics!!!!

what age is your dd.. is she too young for simple games like snap or dominoes?

I have also done treasure trails round the house..nothing fancy.. collect 25 bits of red paper

CharCharGabor · 02/03/2009 21:13

DD's only 19 months so too young for snap etc. just get I think. Treasure trail sounds good, will give that a go. Have tried putting a bit of tv on to distract her for a bit but she just ignores it Don't know how I'm supposed to find enough time to MN
