Hi, I need some support! My baby is 8 weeks old and she wont stop crying. Shes my fourth, so its none of the things you would immediately think. I just dont know whats wrong with her. I carry her around all day crying. If I put her down it gets even worse, she becomes absolutely hysterical, turns bright red and screams and screams, it has been about 30 minutes now, but I cant bear it any more. Feel like I might loose it. cant stop crying, but Im not dpressed just pushed to the limit. Noone seems to understand as when she is out in the buggy she falls asleep in sheer exhaustion. Help

How are you feeding her?

Have you ruled out colic?

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/02/2009 13:59

When you say that 'it's none of the things you would immediately think', I would immediately think 'milk intolerance', because that's my experience of a screaming baby. Have you ruled this out?

Im breast feeding her. how can you rule out colic? Ive found that if I eat chocolate it makes her much worse

It's possible it could be reflux - that is worse when they are on their back so they often want to be held upright all the time. Perhaps you'd better take her to an out of hours gp?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2009 14:07

It really could be dairy intolerance then.

How are her nappies?

I's see gp asap.

she has got reflux, same is my other three, she is taking ranitindine, and I am pretty sure it has stopped her refluxing. Nearly sure it is not this causing the pain.

You can't rule out colic, as colic is actually just a term for 'unexplained crying'. Being worse after choc does suggest it's possible milk intolerance. As you're bf, you'd need to cut all dairy out of your diet for 2 weeks (though you'll prob see some diff within 7-10 days), and obv if it works then you'll need to stay off it.

Don't offer formula during this time as it also contains cows milk, and don't express for later use, as the expressed milk will also contain dairy until it's all cleared from your system.

what should I look for in her nappies if she has dairy intolerance? She does have a constant cough, alot of phlegm and a blocked nose. This has been there for weeks though and I have checked it with the doctor and the paediatrician.

Ah, even more likely to be milk intolerance then, as often goes hand in hand with reflux.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/02/2009 14:13

lol - you keep on cross posting with me and listing more and more symptoms that are common in milk intolerant babies!

Gps are notoriously crap at knowing anything about milk int.

198 · 28/02/2009 14:16

just checked it on the internet, sounds like her symptoms, I hate going to the doctor to tell them the baby is ill. She was born at 10lb 2 and is now 14lb. because she looks like a big healthy baby the doctor always does not accept she is ill. took 5 weeks to persuade him she had reflux as she was never sick

do you know how quickly they might react to me eating dairy products? If I had a large glass of milk before I went to bed, what sort of time would that get into my milk?
