Ashton & Parson's powders

My DS (4.75m) seems to have started teething. I gave him calpol the other day which really helped and went out to buy some A&P teething powders. Now I might be being thick, but on the box it says to give half a powder morning and night and then again if it is worse during the day. Do you do this? How do you know if it is going to be a "bad" day, or do you just give it as a preventative measure? I had been trying just giving him half a powder when he was inconsolable and it seemed to work for about 10 minutes but then he would be in pain again and I've been resorting to calpol which is something I feel a bit uneasy about, because I don't like to take painkillers unless I have to (but can't explain that to him, obviously)

He likes the cold teething rings from fridge/freezer but again the effects are limited.

Also why half a powder for under 6 months?? What a PITA!

Hi, we used the A&P teething granules loads, and personally took the dosing instructions with a large granule of salt after a doctor told me that there is nothing in them that can do any harm - i.e. you couldn't od on them. Clearly never gave a whole box in a day, but used them as and when required, and my dd loved them and would never let me get away with just a quick finger rub of it. wouldn't ever give medical advice as such as not my place, but that's what we did for what it's worth!

We used to call it ds's baby cocaine - he loved it. It certainly looks like cocaine too...

I didn't like them, I prefer Nelsons Teetha's

work wonders and you can get them in ASDA, Tesco, Boots etc

I did get a very odd look from someone once when I was giving it to him in public - I'm sure they thought I was giving my baby a line of coke

I prefer teetha too - much easier to administer than a&ps although a&ps is cheaper.
