Survivors of serious illness (Group B Strep in particular)

Hi, I just thought I would come here for advice as I noticed on another thread that some of you had had babies infected with Group B Strep at birth.

My dd had Group B Strep (septicemia) infection at 2 weeks old. It started very suddenly, she ended up in hosptital for almost 2 weeks. At the beginning she was in HDU and the doctors were unsure whether she would survive. After a course of IV antibiotics she started to get better thankfully.

Since then she has been ok, she is now a happy 13 week old baby and she seems of normal health and she is of average weight. I still feel very anxious though about her health though, does this feeling ever go away? When did you start to feel better about it? I am too scared to leave her with anyone else (apart from my husband) and she is always kept close to us so we can keep an eye on her.

Statistically the risk of the GBS returning is minimal now after 3 months, but did you find that your baby was more prone to other infections afterwards or were they of normal health?

Thanks for any replies, I think I am starting to feel a little better but I was wondering does that feeling ever go away.

My friends ds had GBS after birth and very nearly died. He is now 4yo and as far as I know he is very healthy and no different to other children of his age.

Hope that helps.
