Thought we could set up a general chat for encouragement/ advice/ moans/ high-fiving .

So how are you getting on?

DD1 is 2.4 and decided on Saturday to wear pants. Progress so far:-
day1: no accidents
day2: one missed wee
day3: two missed wees and one missed poo
day4: one missed wee and one missed poo
day5 (today): she was a star at nursery this morning- plenty of wees and a poo in the nursery potty, but had 3 accidents in half an hour this afternoon. I think it was because she was enjoying doing some painting after having a big cup of juice.

Anyone else finding it a bit up and down?

I'm also feeling sad for DD2 (8 months) who frequently gets left to play by herself whilst we do the sitting, wiping, hand washing, pants pulling up etc...

Rinky Ds seems to find poos harder to do in the potty too. I think, for him anyway, that it doesn't feel that different doing a poo in pants or a nappy, whereas a wee obviously feels wet in pants. Also they get less chance to practice, ie one a day rather than 10 ish wees.

That's my theory anyway

Gotta keep the faith!!

vesela · 05/03/2009 16:02

rinky, how frustrating for you. I was also going to suggest that pull-ups might let her continue to practise her weeing skillz while making things easier with the pooing.

ilovetochat · 07/03/2009 15:02

i thought dd had given up on the potty as she has only been using it firsth thing for her poo and wee and then wetting her nappy the rest of the day. but today she used it first thing, then she was bare for 2 hours but did nothing, then she woke from her nap dry and said wee and then used her potty and she has just weed on it so its going better again.
we are going away in 2 weeks so im not going to push anything till after we get back home. then i think i will give proper potty training a go in april, she will be 21 months and we are at home till summer.

Grrr - frustrating day here - two accidents, one this morning when I'd nipped upstairs for a moment and one just nopw wathcing telly.

On the plus side we went into town this morning, I put him in a pull up as I couldn't face a mess while out on my own with 2 kids, but he was really good, the pull up stayed dry, nad he did tow wees on public loos - a first for him.

He seems fine as long as I put him on the potty / loo every hour or so, but he seems to have forgotton how to ask - the first few days he said 'wee wee quick quick' but now, nothing. He's also happy to sit in soggy clothes until I notice he's wet - he doesn't tell me.

It sounds like they all vary from day to day, so I guess we just press on.

Got to keep the faith!!!

'scuse typos

ilovetochat · 07/03/2009 18:42

well today dd has used the potty 5 times including all 3 poos so far so she has done well but she only asked to go twice, the rest i just offered or i knew she was due a poo.
i have noticed that weekends dd does well and mondays as i am in the house mostly apart from short trips to the park or in the garden. but in the week when we are out a lot at classes and peoples houses, she sits on the potty but does nothing and then wets her nappy. i think she would benefit from a week in the house when i go for bare bum training.

RinkyDinkyPinky · 08/03/2009 22:57

Can I just suggest not to go for completely bare bottom during PT... unless all your floors are wipe-clean.

The thing is that pants soak up most of the wee, or catch the poo in case of accidents.
We had a bad moment when DD wasn't able to stop a poo coming and she'd happened to have taken off her trousers and pants the minute before and run into the (carpeted) office room. Really awful mess...

I think they do forget to ask if they are engrossed in something.I still remind DD to use the potty if I think she hasn't been for a while.

ilovetochat · 09/03/2009 12:54

good suggestion actually rinky as our house s all carpets.
we took her to the park today and left the potty in the car, poor dd suddenly just stood still looked at me and obvoiusly weed and then turned looking for it on the floor. i had to stop myself from laughing.

Jojay · 09/03/2009 13:33

Well done to your DD ilovetochat - it sounds like she's doing really well.

A better day here so far - no accidents - but Ds was rubbish over at the in-laws yesterday - 4 accidents.

Like the others he seems better at home. As soon as there's a distraction he's not so good. We turned down an invitation to soft play today for that reason, but we're off to play with one of his mates this afternoon so we'll see how we get on there.

Heebychick · 10/03/2009 15:03

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay in posting, we decided not to try the cold turkey approach this weekend as DD was getting a little upset about PT so we left it for a few days.

Then my phone went just now and it was MIL saying Dd had something to tell me 'she said hello mummy, i did poo in potty'

Cue huge hurrah!!! big sticker and choc biscuit rewards all round, this is great as it's the first one she's done outside our house! so maybe the confidence is growing, brilliant!

How is everyone doing?

ilovetochat · 10/03/2009 18:38

dd has used her potty at nannys house, a friends house and today in the pub toilet cubicle although she hasnt asked for it today at all. she only had a wet nappy at the park.
i still dont feel like we are potty training really though as its just us offering it mainly.
the other day she was bare before her bath and she just ran to the potty sat down and weed so that was a success and she is dry after her naps now, even in the car today when she fell asleep.

Jojay · 10/03/2009 19:57

WE're doing a bit better here.

After a disasterous day on Sunday we've had 2 completely dry days with very little prompting from me - hurray!!

Still having trouble with poos though - we've had 2 in his pants today. the first time we didnt' notice him doing it at all and he didn't say a word ( we were at baby clinic with DS2) The second time, he said 'poo' to DH, so DH stuck him on the potty. He did a wee and then jumped up. DH assumed that was it so pulled his trousers up etc. Two seconds later, poo in pants! So we know now, if he says 'poo', leave him on the potty until he does it!

But overall I'm pretty pleased with his progress

Hope it continues going well for everyone else

Heebychick · 11/03/2009 15:23

You are both doing great, it sounds like the progress is really positive. i like that they are recognising they want to go, very important for getting the understanding there eh.

jojay i feel the same, i don't think we are 'training' just asking, offering etc. My mum has DD today and she has tried a few times to get her on the potty but DD not really interested, but she has tried which is great. Mum said then she did a poo in her nappy and then got very upset and wanted the potty so it seems the connection is there.

ilovetochat · 12/03/2009 15:46

i am in potty limbo,
we have had a couple of occasions when dd had weed on potty then as i flush it away she has said poopoo, i said no just a wee, then she pood her nappy so obviously she was trying to tell me.
so she weed in her potty at half 3 i flushed it and she said poo so she sat back on her potty, she is still there and every time i stand her up and put her pull ups back on she says poopoo.
is she having me on or does she need 1?
on a better note she was bare this morning till we went out at 9 and she did a wee and a poo on her potty by herself and then came and told me hurray.

ilovetochat · 12/03/2009 15:46

sorry my question was how long do i leave her here saying poo poo?

ilovetochat · 13/03/2009 21:00

where did everyone go?

RinkyDinkyPinky · 14/03/2009 19:23

HI Ilove..., DD did this at first (potty sitting for a long time and saying poo poo) and I think it was just because it's difficult to work out what all the different sensations mean. After reading a story with her sat on the potty for 5 -10 mins I would get her off and say- "Poo not coming this time- maybe it'\ll come next time" and then do something different.

We had a crazy couple of weeks- DD got the vomit bug and spent a few days in bed, so we went back to nappies then. But once she was well she was happy to wear pants again.

we've had a couple of days without poo accidents. Early days yet. And only going for wees every 2 hours. And had a sucessful shopping trip with no accidents...

she was doing well last week using potty 6 or 7 times a day but the last 2 days have been really busy with a party and visits and the park so she has used her potty morning and night but not much else cos we have been out all the time.
tonight though she ran through the house shouting wee wee potty and used it so that was good.
after our holiday we are going for it.

ilovetochat · 16/03/2009 15:29

bump

honeybean · 17/04/2009 19:52

Hello, may I join in? Have been reading with interest but have come abit unstuck with PT...I have been PT my 2.3 year old for about two weeks, initiated by her as she just refused to wear nappies one day. Going well I think, better at home than out and about but she hasn't worn a nappy (except at night) for the whole time (just quite a few changes of clothes).
Only thing is she starts back at nursery next week and i wonder if it all might become abit much. Her control seems ok but in no way reliable.. can anyone tell me if there anything to be said for going 'back' to nappies, or once you start is there no going back? Am getting mixed answers from friends and unsure what to do. I dont want to put her in a stressful situation if she's really not ready herself.
Sorry its long.
