How do I stop dd (2) waking before she goes into a big bed?

DD2, just turned 2 still sleeps in a cot in her own room. we are planning that at the beginning of the summer holidays she will move into her sister's bottom bunk.
The problem is that she still wakes most nights any time between 10.30 and 2 and will cry for a couple of minutes. we don't go in and she drops off again.
but my concern is that if she does this in a bed she will try to get up etc (even though she is actually pretty much asleep when she cries)and then she will really wake up etc. and also obviously that she will wake dd1.
A friend has suggested that she might sleep better in a big bed and not do this (I say hopefully....) any ideas?

Hm... not sure. DD1 also just turned 2 and is also still in a cot. In theory this summer we are moving DD2 in to share with her... I'm still debating whether to move DD1 to a bed at this stage or keep her in the containment unit cotbed.

My DD1 also does this crying in the night when she is basically still sleeping. There's a chance she might be a bit more disturbed when you first make the move and so might get out of bed but that seems quite normal, based on other people's experience. I don't think she is properly waking when she does this so probably not the same with your dd? I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest.

I think you may be right to expect her to continue to wake, she may also actually get up once she is in a big bed.
Sooner or later she will be too big for a cot and you'll have to make the move to a bed but I wouldn't rush it. Could you try leaving the cot sides down to see how she reacts to that?
When my DS1 was 2 we moved him into a bed as DS2 was due any day. To cut a long story short, he was not ready to give up his cot and I decided to let him take his time, we put him back in the cot and borrowed a second cot for the baby.
