bugaboo, how long should they lie flat for?

I was just wondering how long the baby should be in the flat bit of the pram. My son is 4 months old and I have some friends who are already using the push chair part of the pram already? My ds is qute lond and his head and feet are nearly touching the ends but don't want to move him too early if it's bad for their spines?

The literature says 6 months. I also know people who used the seat much earlier- one at 10 weeks. I think it depends on the baby. I will be using my frog again for this baby and can't see me waiting until 6 months- more like 3-4.

I used mine in carrycot mode for 7 months. We tried the pushchair part at about 5 months but she looked tiny in it and not at all comfortable.

we moved DS into the pushchair at 5 months. but you can still recline it enough that they aren't completely sitting up (but can see stuff so don't get so bored!)

Don't know if this helps, but thought it was worth mentioning but there are a few pushchairs advertised at from 3 months that aren't fully flat. If the chair has a good recline it might be ok. I would just make sure that he's not in it for hours on end (like you wouldn't leave him in a car seat for too long)

Ok thanks everyone, think i'll give it a go today and see how we get on, if i can construct it!!! He does seem to get quite cross lying flat and not be able to have a good nosey around!!

IIRC there are two main issues re. little babies sitting up - one is to do with the angle of the pelvis/spine, and the other is to do with them having sufficient strength to hold themselves up and not slump so that their lungs have room to work.

Given the bugaboo seat never lies flat (even when reclined), I'd be wary of using it for long this early unless your DS is very well developed.

I've got a Gecko and DD hated being in the pram from about 4 months as she was so nosy. I didn't feel she was ready for the pushchair, however, so I wound up carrying her in one of these slings a lot until she got a bit older. Still carry her a fair amount now and she's nearly 2!

We used ours until 6 months and then used the pushchair part totally reclinded for another months.

If their spine is not developed enough the weight of their head may damage the spine.

Unless your baby is able to sit with minimal support I would say leave it flat or use a sling.
