washables at nursery

My ds is starting nursery next month 2 days a week and the nursery are happy to have him in his cloth nappies but I'm wondering how this will work. I've currently got 4 motherease airflow wraps, which is fine at the mo, but do I need more for nursery as I assume they will just be bagging everything up for me to deal with at home, not airing out the wraps? How many do you think I'll need? Also is there some kind of nappy bag that anyone can recommend for storing the used nappies in for transporting them home?

Do you need to air them out? I don't think I ever did (although I am going back to them now so would need to know too!). I thought as long as they are not soaked through they are fine to just put straight back on?

With the bag, do you have some sort of wet bag that you use when you are out? That is what I would recomend. Most places that sell washables do them if you haven't got one already.

Just tell them to put the same wrap back on unless it is soaking round the bindings or soiled with poo.

They might find it easier to put it in a "normal" nappy sack if you don't object to those. At our former nursery they used nappy sacks for any soiled/wet clothes or similar.

DDs uses her cloth nappies at nursery and we've not had any problems. I asked them just to change the wrap if it was pooey, I have 4 wraps too and always just send one spare one. Poo on the wrap is pretty rare and in the 9 moths she's been going I don't think it's ever happened.

I send a wet bag like this for the used nappies. They put the pooey nappies in a 'normal' nappy bag inside my one so I can remove the poo at home.

Yes get them to use the same wrap unless soiled. We used a waterproof zipped bag for putting the wet nappies in, Mommy's Touch - though we got it free with some Fuzzi Buns. Worked just fine, no smells though it took a bit of discussion to stop the staff individually wrapping the nappies before putting them in the bag. They got there in the end. I just used to wash the bag with the nappies and it dried very quickly.

I was lucky to have a baby that didn't poo in a nappy during the day, but if your nursery will be dealing with poo just make sure they are confident about using the liners you have chosen - and know how to chuck the poo before putting the nappy in the bag.

Nursery just put the same wrap on unless soiled. It did take them a bit of convincing not to use nappy bags in the wet bag, but they were fine about disposing of the poo. This meant I just undid the drawstring of the bag and chucked it all in the washing machine

We use cloth now for nearly 10 months without any major problems.

I provide 5 nappies and one spare wrap and most days they just change the nappies. Only on bad teething days I expect her to come home with everything used and most likely I add some disposables in her bag just in case.

I have 6 wraps at home but I wash every third day.

They weren't happy with wet bags so they put them in nappy bags. Not really the best idea but a compromise I had to accept.

Thanks for the links and the advice - I'm sure once we do our settling in days I'll figure out how this nursery operates - they said they have a few babies in cloth, so hopefully should be straightforward.

I got some pocket nappies for nursery - decided it was easier for several different people to use iyswim.

I have never aired wraps either - I would just send one on and one spare in case of leaks.

I think most nurseries prefer to use nappy bags rather than putting them all in a wet bag - it is probably more hygienic in a group situation

Same as everyone else - one wrap on and a spare for emergencies, and always pack one more nappy than you expect dd to need.
I pack clean nappies in a cotton shopping bag with the wet bag inside it, and that stays hanging on a peg in their bathroom all day so they don;t have to be fetching stuff from dd's coat peg - see what the setup is at your nursery and send something that they will find convenient.

The baby-room staff were fine putting nappies straight in the wet bag but always left the poo in them (no paper liners here).
However dd has now moved up and depsite getting exactly the same briefing from me the toddler-room staff always flush the poo but bag each nappy before putting in the wet bag.

It also took them a while to work out the nippas won;t work if you've put the nappy on inside (ie fleece-side) out...
