Changing nappies... wake 'em to change 'em?

What is the longest you can leave a baby unchanged for without it being really gross? I try and change DD's nappy every 2 hours, a full nappy doesn't bother her (6 weeks old) so it's a case of trying to remember, or doing it with every feed. Overnight though, she wakes for a feed and needs to be fed right now or else screams the place down, but once fed falls asleep. I'm loathe to change her nappy on one hand, as she then wakes up and won't go down again for ages, but on the other hand it seems a bit cruel to leave her in the same nappy for 6 hours. I confess I have done this, it doesn't seem to bother her, she doesn't have a rash or anything as a result, but feels a bit wrong. Is it??

In the middle of night I only changed it if it was a poo unless but this took me 3dcs to pluck up the courage to do, and no3 slept through the night sooner, don't know if that was a coincedience or not

I only do if its a poo

Unless it's actually leaking, stinking or he's complaining - I leave him to it. Disposables are designed to wick the moisture away and can last up to six hours and if your baby sleeps longer than that it'll be a sodding miracle!

Excellent! She tends to save her poos for early evening, I try and fob those off on DH, mwah ha ha... I shall stop worrying about marinating her in wee overnight then!

Goodness no - if they're asleep let 'em sleep and keep night-time nappy changes on an 'only if absolutely necessary' basis IMHO.

Disposables tend to feel a lot drier to the touch than you might imagine - even when heavy.

If you're worried about a sore bum then slather with copious amounts of sudocrem (or equiv.) when doing last nappy of the day.

If she's uncomfortable, she'll let you know and will therefore be wide awake anyway...

Just wanted to add that I had this same issue with DD (13 weeks) until someone told me to try feeling how wet a heavy wet nappy feels, and sure enough, it feels dry as a bone! Amazing - the manufacturers are very clever! So that stopped me worrying.

Have left mine all night in cloth as long as only wet as long as I remembered to use fleece liners and boosted them sufficiently they were fine.
