ermm pass - but I've got an OU tutorial tomorrow too - I do want to go (because I'm knew to the OU and all that and hardly started my stuff yet - although we're just finishing the welcome week so I'm not overly worried about not having done much yet)..........however i'd much rather enjoy a loooooooooooooooooooooong lie-in in the morning seen as though I'm child free and my last childfree weekend was the weekend I moved house and I was up stupidly early that Saturday too.

harpomarx · 13/02/2009 20:34

what's the course, Katy? was it you who was having trouble with your essay?

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 20:37

Managing in the Workplace

I did sort my essay out - & got a good mark 72%

So I feel rough, I had a bad week (hosp for me) next week will be bad (hosp for DH) I'm tired

well done! that's great. Just go, it's much easier to keep up with the course if you're seeing other people who are doing the same thing. Hope you feel better soon.

used to be a OU tutor, I used to find tutorials tough too - but I always enjoyed them once I was there and loved meeting my students.

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 20:42

Only 1 more piece of work......just 8000 words

Molesworth · 13/02/2009 20:42

I've got one tomorrow too; just having a minor panic about getting my stuff together here because I'm not used to getting up early on a Saturday

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 20:44

What are you doing FAQ & Molesworth?

I have a 2 hr drive each way - not looking forward to that either

Molesworth · 13/02/2009 20:46

I'm doing DD308 (Sociology) - really need this tutorial because I need a bit of a kick up the bum at the beginning of each course.

2 hour drive each way is a bit grim I must say - poor you

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 20:59

I'm doing K101 - introduction to health and social care.

Sat down 1/2hr ago to start going through my welcome week stuff properly - went to play the DVD and have discovered that the DVD software I had on my computer was only a free trial - it's the only DVD player I have so I'm currently in the process of sorting out DVD playing software for my computer and then I shall plough on and at least look and sound like I've got some idea what I'm doing when I go tomorrow.

My tutorial is only in the next town (Northamton actually Katy ) - about 15 miles away, but until this morning I thought I was going to have to leave the house before 8am to get there on time - as I would have needed to walk into town to catch the (slow( bus there, then it's a good 20/30 minute walk I think from the bus stop to the college

Thankfully someone on my tutorial group posted to offer lifts to anyone who needed them and I jumped at the chance - she doesn't need to do a massive diversion or anything to get here and it means I don't even need to get up until 8am

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:11

I'll buy the damn thing after the free trial runs out - glad I didn't decide to watch any of my general DVD's recently I'd have been well pissed off if I'd had to do this first LOL.

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 21:12

I guess I will have to leave at 7:45

OP posts:
Molesworth · 13/02/2009 21:14

Can't you watch it on the telly FAQ?

I've got one of the OU's new-fangled interactive DVDs for my course; it just runs in my internet browser. Tbh I'm not keen on it because it features journal articles, which are too long to read on screen.

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:14

feel for you there Katy - I would have been leaving at that time too, thank god for kind fellow local students willing to give me a lift!

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:14

on the TV??? - using what exactly

FairLadyRandySlut · 13/02/2009 21:15

Katy...sorry to ehar about Hossie for you and now dh...nightmare....but seems like you are getting on well with your course...really pleased for you

Molesworth · 13/02/2009 21:16

DVD player?

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:17

I don't own a DVD player

Molesworth · 13/02/2009 21:20

The realisation dawned as soon as I posted the suggestion!

DVDs should play in Windows Media Player or the Mac equivalent.

Pesky newfangled things. What's wrong with BOOKS, I ask you?!

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:22

nah it's telling me a I need a Co-dec (or something like that) which on further investigation (using OU stuff) suggest that I should download something from microsoft

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 21:24

You obviously didn't see the pile of books, sorry, 'readings' I got

OP posts:
FairLadyRandySlut · 13/02/2009 21:26

Katy...you know, I always loved reading...until now, where I have to do it and it really puts me off...I can't blardy read on demand, lol...

Molesworth · 13/02/2009 21:26

At least books can be taken to bed/on the train/read in the bath though. And you can scribble on them. I don't have a printer and feel that the OU is being miserly with this DVD business, forcing students to print stuff out instead of sending printed material in the first place.

FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:27

oh I know - I could be sat reading some of the other stuff for the welcome week while this download is finishing (well it's on 34% now........) but I'm having a fag and MNing instead

KatyMac · 13/02/2009 21:27

This stuff can't be read in the bath/on the train it is deathly boring

& I read anything

OP posts:
FAQinglovely · 13/02/2009 21:27

ahhh now I do have a printer, a fancy scanner, copier, printer (which I can't work out how to make it just print in black and white ).
