Lunchtime naps and actually eating some lunch.....

Afternoon - my 21 month old DS has a lunchtime nap around 11.30 and usually sleeps well and has some lunch when he wakes up around 1.30. Just lately, though, he hasn't been going to sleep well and is often still awake at 12,15. and then wakes about 2.00. My dilemma is now that he is going to bed later, obviously he then has a later lunch, which has a knock-on affect on his tea. What do others do? Do I start doing his food before his nap and risk him falling asleep in his lunch. My other problem is I have a 5 month old DS who also sleeps from 12:00 - 2:00 but putting him down can disturb my older DS (they're sharing)'cos he's a bit farty and often grizzles and cries when he's put down then waking up older DS. Any advice would be lovely AND super. Thank you.

I'd do lunch first and nap afterwards. ds has lunch around 12pm and naps straight afterwards

I'd do lunch then nap. My 2yo has lunch at 11.30 then sleeps from 12.30 (theoretically -- like yours he can sometimes take a while to settle!).

Lunch first and nap after. And can 5 month old go in a travel cot elsewhere if it's a problem...

When dd moved her nap back I gave her her lunch first then put her down to sleep.

If she didn't manage to eat her lunch because she was overtired I'd just give her a snack when she woke up.

Great, thanks. Yeah, 5 month old is on our bed at the mo - he's a bit unsettled but I think he's asleep now. When do they stop needing a lunchtime nap, roughly?

Interesting, I do the opposite, but have been questioning whether I should. My 20mo DD just went down at 12 and hasn't yet had lunch, though had banana and crackers as a snack and milk before bed.

Wonder if I should do lunch first.

dd napped till she was nearly 3 but the last few months of that I had to resort to taking her out in the car at naptime and she would have a sleep in her carseat. ds(2.4years) has had a few days where he hasnt napped and has been ok but I like him to nap as it gives me an hour or 2 of peace (to come on here mainly!!)

i would always advise lunch 1st or they wake before they are ready as hungary

i would do lunch 11.45/12 and then sleep, can always have a snack when they wake up at 2/3

different children vary with naps - my 2 8mth and 3.3 both sleep 1-3

yet friends of my 3.3 gave up sleep at 18mths/2 etc

its nice to get both sleeping together so that you get some peace, or wake up older one 30mins before so that you have a bit of 121 with them before baby wakes

Right, as from tomorrow, I'll start to give him lunch at 11.30 - 12.00 and see how that goes. Does anyone else find it hard to cook with a 21month old who wont let me leave the room? I do, obviously, then he brings all his toys in to the kitchen and plays with them round my feet!!!! Grrr

I'm doing lunch 12-1ish for my 9 month old then sleep but always we're late with lunch or breakfast or something. Then we are late with afternoon milk and tea and then overtired at sleep time.Need to have a big kick and get things back on track. He is sleeping in my bed at the moment help!
