£25-worth of free nappies and I don't like any of them!

My local council has (very kindly) given me a £25 voucher for some cloth nappies, but you have to get them from one shop with very little range and, without meaning to sound ungrateful, I don't really fancy any of them!

My options are: prefolds (already have a pile, never use them), Nappy Nation (haven't heard of them but assume they're like Tots Bots?), Tots Bots cotton, bamboozle or flexitots or Motherease OS (I am currently selling all my MEOS because I didn't like them). TB look my best bet - have some cotton and they're okay, don't love them; haven't tried bamboo TB but I had a Lollipop one which took days to dry so a pain; are flexitots any good?

Otherwise wondering about some bamboo prefolds to use as stuffing/nappy off time mats (she's in Fluffles at night now but I stuff with a prefold and the whole thing's still soaking by morning).

Or would it be totally against the spirit of the thing to get some nappies, sell them, and get some I actually do want?

As long as you are flogging them to buy other reusables and not vodka you are ok

bitofadramaqueen · 12/02/2009 19:45

I like flexitots, but like bamboozles they take about 24 hours to dry so you might find that a pain.

Could the shop order any different ones for you?

Otherwise, I cant see any reason for buying and selling some if it's to buy other nappies. It's not like you're trying to make a fast buck.

I would love the excuse to buy some new Bumgenius (only have secondhand ones, and not enough of them) so I would spend it on nappies Feels a bit naughty though.

i loved my nappy nation ones fwiw. they were great.

that said, £25 isn't going to go that far is it? can you spend it on other stuff? wraps etc?

Anglepoise · 12/02/2009 19:58

Maybe I should look into Nappy Nation ...

No, £25 doesn't go far - it's maybe three nappies. I get another two vouchers at some point though, so something to look forward to. I am sorted for wraps and have two nappy buckets. Could possibly do with a swim nappy but they don't specify the brand and I suspect it's not a Happy Nappy (which we need if we end up doing classes). Need a wet bag but again it's not very specific ("Nappy carrying bag").

Yeah, buy em and flog em. Buy the tots - either the flexis or the bamboozles.

Hi Anglepoise
Got no suggestions re your post but just wanted to say TK Maxx was stripped bare of everything (clearance sale on) when I went, seeing you on here reminded me I forgot to let you know!

Anglepoise · 12/02/2009 22:01

No worries - thank you for looking!

I'd go with flexitots to flog, the 2nd hand bamboozle market is a bit saturated and v.cheap due to TKMaxx and Amazon doing cheapos in the past. I think you'll get more money back with Flexitots.

Which council is it? Maybe they need to be approached by some more retailers, so that one supplier doesn't have a monopoly - councils aren't supposed to advertise businesses, and if one supplier has a monopoly, surely this is advertising?

I'd certainly buy, and then sell them, but unfortuunately you won't get their true value - unless you can find someone who would swop them?

Quidditch · 13/02/2009 08:11

Just realized, I should have said What would you really like? I wouldn't mind some flexitots! Can you send a CAT message?

Anglepoise · 13/02/2009 09:58

It's Warrington council. I don't know whether they use this retailer because they do a laundry service too (initial council offer is either six discounted TBs + gubbins or a month of laundry service for free). Also have no probs with the retailer, who seem very nice (and all in all it's a darn sight better than Lambeth, where I was before, who offered FA), it's just a bit restricted.

Bumgenius are my new love or something of that ilk but am a nappy whore always open to suggestions. No CAT but email is jenniestevenson at googlemail dot com
