ds dry and clean during the day but always has a dirty nappy when he wakes

DS is now pretty reliably dry and v reliably clean during the day (22 months). Asks for potty or pss when he needs to go, and can hang on for a little bit if we have to go and find somewhere.
However he tends to do an ENORMOUS poo in the morning before he gets up. Sometimes I think this also wakes him up earlier than he'd really like to wake.
Is there anything that we can do to slightly change this pattern? Would, for example, not having fruit at suppertime make any difference at all (he's a fruit monster, though tbh on days when he doesn't have any I don't see any difference...)
It's not a major issue, but I just wondered if anyone had any ideas.
(We're cloth users, but I'm drifting to disps now, because we use so few, they're all pooey, and then sit around for ages before getting washed - feels like we're giving up!)

Yup, he'll definitely be waking up to poo, pooing during sleep pretty much never happens. Is it always at the same time every day? It'd probably be best go to him and put him on the potty just before he would usually wake. If you're lucky you might just be able to re-settle him for a bit more sleep afterward.

I don't know when it happens, because it's happened before I go in to him! He's generally pretty quiet when he wakes (I think! how can I tell?!) for a while, and then starts to talk and call. And we as we don't have a monitor on at night, he has to be really quite talkative before we hear him.

I don't think I can bear the idea of waking him up in order to put him on a potty though, either for him, or for me - and there's absolutely NO way he'd go back to sleep afterwards, he's not that kind of a child!
