Dear All,

Sorry if this has been dealt with before, but I was wondering if you could suggest some books for dealing with bilingual children. My daughter recently turned two and although my native tongue is English, my husband's isn't and I would love my daughter to learn his language. In fact I started teaching her some words from BYKI, but due to circumstances had to put it on hold.

I would really would appreciate it.

Thanks for all your responses. I really appreciate the time you all take out to respond.

Brangelina, thanks for your point of view. I didn't think about it from that point of view.

Maybe subconsciously he doesn't want her to speak precisely for the reasons you pointed. We went to a car dealer earlier on in the week and my husband actually said, "Yes, I am Romanian, but I am one of the good ones. We aren't all bad!!". I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now..........

He does claim he wants her to learn, he says it is the only way she will be able to speak with the majority of his family.

I intend to push this as much as possible, because I feel it will be good for her.

Thanks for all the support and advice!!!

I have heard it said if you are able as a child to learn one other language that other languages become easier to learn. i must admit to be able to make myself understood in most European countries from my understanding of Spanish, English and a little french at school.
