Ok so I'm nearly convinced that reusable nappies are the way ahead for me but I also want to try reusuable wipes - any recommendations?

And if you use them do you use them all the time, even when you go out? Or do you use disposable wipes?

I use thin flannels for my wipes, they are perfect IMHO. I just wet a batch with plain water in the morning and keep them in a tub. I have a little bottle of watered down baby wash to hand for really messy jobs, but TBH I hardly ever need it.

It was actually using cloth out and about that gave me the final push to use reusable wipes I found it really annoying to have keep the used wipes separate from the nappies, with washable wipes I could just pop everything into the wet bag [lazy bint emoticon]

I must admit, I do love the Nature Babies ones - they are just the right size! and ready made as I'm lazy!

i mix and match, cloth wipes upstairs at home and disposable ones out and about and downstairs at home.

i figure i'm still doing my bit for the environment even if it's half assed and tbh i do prefer the cotton, i just don't have enough to keep all through the house, need to buy some more!

i got these from bumfluff and they're great, got other ones as well from another site but they went incredibly thin and i wasn't keen at all, only use these now.

PinkTulips · 03/02/2009 17:26

should have said, i fill an old spray bottle with plain water and spray onto the wipes as needed. i used to keep them in a tub with homemade solution but found it a pain in the ass to remember to refill when they ran out!

ThingOne · 03/02/2009 17:28

I used cloth wipes with water - just ran under a tap or a drinking bottle if no tap around.

deanychip · 03/02/2009 17:28

ikea sell face cloths, 5 in a bunch for a couple of quid i think. these are what i used.

For ready made solutions - I bought a pack of Dixie Drops from Clwt Twt (if you google it you'll find it!). I make up the solution and then put it in a spray bottle - last for ages, in fact I've only bought one pack and dd is nearly 2.

I do a Baby Botty Mix that can be used for wipes but can't advertise myself...but it's available from Treehuggaz as well.

We used them out & about as well as at home and I found it v easy - just shoved a pile of them in the bag along with the spray bottle.

You can always just use cooled chamomile tea.

If you prefer to soak the wipes before going out you can buy a small wet bag (I found on in Superdrug for about £1.50 intended to be a wash bag) and shove them in that until you use them when you're out.

NorktasticNinja · 03/02/2009 17:44

Yes, I put my wet wipes in a wash bag for out and about too.

Thanks for the advice

I just bought a piece of fleece from the fabric shop in the market and cut it into squares - no hemming or anything.

I tend to just use with water - run under the tap as I'm about to use. But that's with a toddler at the mo. When I have dc2 I plan to get a bit more organised and make up a bottle of chamomile tea with a drop of tea tree oil. I like the spray bottle idea, I might use that.

rusmum · 03/02/2009 20:33

i use an old plastic baby wipes box. soak wipes in warm water and couple drops tea tree oil, wring out and leave in box- wet wipes!

McDreamy · 03/02/2009 21:15

Ok so maybe it would be cheaper and easier to make my own solution.

I actually wash and reuse disposable wipes, most of them you can keep washing for ages. It also means that should you want to bin them for whatever reason it's not a problem.
