dd has been dry during the day for over 18 months. Time to try nights?

She's been out of nappies since she was 2.5. Just turned 4. She occasionally complains about wearing a pull-up to bed, but it is always soaking. For a few nights last autumn she woke up dry (after waking for a wee in the night) but then went back to being wet. I can't quite bring myself to "train" her at night. We've only just got ds sleeping through and the idea of changing soaking wet sheets at 2 in the morning doesn't appeal. But I'm wondering if she needs a bit of a nudge.

She's happily abandon pull ups - she does occasionally ask to wear knickers, and we always say "if you can keep the pull up dry for 2 nights, we'll try knickers". But no joy so far...

FWIW dd was only reliably dry at night out of pull ups and in pants. She's 3.11 and we only cracked night time in the last month. I bribed her with some dreadfully tacky princess pants! I think it's worth a shot - she'll feel different in pants and that might make her less likely to have an accident. We lifted dd for the first week or so but didn't bother after that.

Give it a go! Dd was dry in the day just before her 2nd birthday but was nearly 5 before she was dry at night.

I was waiting for dry nappies in the morning too, but it never happened. Then someone on here said that wet nappies didn't necessarily mean that they weren't ready.

I gave it a go but it was a disaster, so we stopped after a few nights. A a few months later tried again and bingo. Just like that. No lifting, no restricting drinks or anything. She was just ready. Yet every morning prior to that her nappy was sodden.

DD is 3 and 7 months. She has been dry during the day for about a year. Over Christmas when she was sharing a room with us she was getting up at night to go to the toilet so we thought we were getting to the stage were she would be out of nappies. We have the odd morning where she is dry but it is not consistent.
Can't offer any advice but will be watching this thread closely to check if anyone can.

I don't think you can train them - they have to have the right level of hormones for them to be ready. I put my DS2 back into nappies before Christmas because he appeared ready (wet nappies maybe once a week) but when we tried for a month or so he was wetting more and more often. He obviously isn't ready after all.

That said DS1 never had a dry nappy but when we forgot to put a nappy on one night he was dry the next morning so we tried it again on purpose and he was fine. He was obviously ready but there were no clues. He would probably still be wearing nappies now if we hadn't forgotten that one time and he is 8!

So, I think the only way you are going to know for sure is to give it a try, but actually I think it isn't worth the effort this time of year. It is too cold and miserable to be getting up in the night to change sheets. Leave it until the spring.

I wouldn't do lifting and limiting drinks either. They may keep the bed dry but they don't really 'teach' anything.
