Anyone done an OU course that continues over the summer months?

Do you get a break in the study plan for the summer, or does it just keep going with one consolidation week like at Christmas and Easter?

If so, how do you keep up when the children are off school? {hmm}

All mine went from Feb to Oct. IIRC there was a two week gap in the schedule in the summer. Do you have one of the timetables setting out what you are supposed to be studying each week? It will be on there.

And I did most of mine with preschool age children, so it didn't really matter to me

I did, but before I had kids (my final exam was at home, with an invigilator sent round, in case I popped, they didn't want me interuppting the exam hall ) No break I'm afraid, they just carry on through, but I liked them, because you got Xmas off and that suited my working patterns at the time. Could you have a word with your tutor, see if you could wangle special circumstances? failing that, you may have to get ahead of yourself and get that months TMA in/ready to submit before hand.....not ideal

I would love to do one then - I am normally healthier in the summer

I got very behind on mine this winter & so I cancelled the one I was planning one doing in Feb

But I think I shouldn't have done

Thanks all. I am currently doing DSE212, which runs Oct to June, but am looking at doing a Jan or Feb start one next year. With schools out for 6 weeks in the summer and three children, I am worried about getting behind and spending the summer being stressed!
I am impressed at those of you who do it with children underfoot

Just finished my OU degree - all my courses were Feb - October with a week's break at Easter and Summer. It's hard work during the summer, especially with young DCs but I think the best thing to do is try to get a bit ahead of yourself so you can have a break when you need to. Good luck - I did DSE212 and really enjoyed it!

TheFallenMadonna · 28/01/2009 21:44

Ah, that was my first OU course! I finished my last psych course in October.

fluffles · 28/01/2009 21:46

My course is feb to october and has a break at easter only. There's something called PROJECT WEEK in week beg 25 July which sounds scary. The biggest TMAs are due on 7th and 28th August.

I plan to survive by getting ahead. I am starting work tonight that should start on 21st Feb, hoping i can stay ahead all year but that might be over optimistic.

Yep. The plan is to motor on and get ahead of schedule so that I can bank time in preparation for the summer hols disruption.
