Advice on using Movicol..................

Dd (3.5) started totally witholding poo when she potty trained a month ago. She is totally wee trained (but it took a long time) but not for poo.

We have been using Movicol for 2.5 weeks. I went back to the dr on Monday to check if there was anything big stuc and the dr didn't think so. However, she doesn't seem to do any proper poos - just soft bits and traces on and off from lunch onwards. I have cut the dose down hoping it might firm up and become a real poo that she can actually get a purchase on and do properly in one go.

But I can't shake the suspicion that actually there is a proper solid poo stuck in there and this soft stuff is just leaking out (as it does - as those of you who have been down this road will know...).

So dilemma is that I don't know if I should cut the does further to firmer it up or increase the dose to get the mythical Big Poo out.

Hlep! This is driving me bonkers. I am obsessed with poo

Having been there done that bought t shirt with ds1 (now 8) I would up the dose to the extent that can't keep anything in.

IME, if they have been withholding there is a lot of lef over stuff (sorry) up there.

It does get better, we went through about a year of movicol and then ds1 just got it! Thought when he was 5 - yes 5! and we been goign through this since potty training it would never get any better, not just seems soooo long ago.

Can I ask - how did you know that he 'got it'? What changed exactly?
