Bed guards for transition from cot to bed

We're about to transfer my dd to a 'big' bed. We're buying a pretty bed but need guards for either side as it's not against a wall. Try as I might, I can't seem to find a suitable guard, they all seem to be fabric. Ideally, I'd like a wooden one or a metal one pref. in white. Any ideas where I can get this type from? Also, how long do you think I'll need them on for (dd is about to turn 3, yes I know we are late but she's been really happy in cot!)

I didn;t use them at all.

DS fell out once or twice then stopped. the only way they learn is to let them. put a quilt or matress on the floor if you're concerned or start her off on a mattress son the floor wihtou the legs for a week or so.

Mothercare have got wooden ones (or they did when I got my fabric travel one from there in the autumn).

Good luck on the transition .

I got a white wooden one from Mothercare a few weeks ago.

We use one cos she has a tendency to sometimes turn sideways and it helps to prevent her doing that!

We never used them either - just a spare duvet next to the bed for the first few nights.I don't think either of them fell out more than once or twice. Once DD didn't even wake up!

I didn't use them and ds has never fallen out of bed. I tuck his duvet under the mattress which helps to keep him in place.

Thx to everyone, think I will try her with duvet on the floor and see how we go

Yes, hotcheesebuns, sorry, started 2 threads by mistake . . !

we have't used a guard either time the single bed was so much bigger than his cot that he could turn full circle and not get near the edge
