Night nappies

Am just starting out in the wonderful world of cloth nappies, and rapidly becoming addicted! Currently trying out Itti Bittis, flexitots, Bumgenius v3 and thirsties in the day. Originally thought we would stick to disposables at night as we try not to change DS at night and didn't want the added complication of worrying about whether or not he was feeling wet when we already struggle with sleeping!! BUT dispos are leaking at night-DS (16wks, 14lb 14oz) is heavy wetter and sleeps on his front, so we have nothing to lose trying cloth at night! But what should we use?? Previou posts seem to favour Baby beehinds? Am also tempted by(but a bit scared of)wool wraps. Any words of wisdom???

Wool wraps are fab for nights.

I wasn't a fan of my Beehinds but I seem to be in the minority!

I love the Berry Plush and Bambinex Bamboo nappies for nights. We put extra boosters in to increase absorbancy.

nickymorris · 26/01/2009 17:24

FWIW my DS was similar to yours in that he's big, and a co-sleeper so wees a lot at night. We tried weeness with two compostable pads and Fuzzibuns with a booster in but on 2 out of 3 nights that led to soggyness :-(

We're now using Boots own active fit which seem to do a good job on him.

But let me know if you have success!

lollipopmother · 26/01/2009 18:52

I'm using WeeNotions Night Notions with a Tots Bots wrap to great effect so far, it's the first nappy that I've really felt confident in as it's fleece lined and bamboo so lots of absorbency with a large pocket for extra if needed and it doesn't smell!

I have tried Baby Beehinds and they're brilliant, the only downside is that they aren't fleece lined and I always want fleece lined for nights. I used a fleece liner but I always wonder whether it's crinkled up overnight. I also used Modern Baby Pop-Ins (just the night booster and a fleece topped booster) with great effect but again, no fleece.

I tried Wonderoos but hated them. And also Ella's House Bumhuggers, hated them too as they stank and didn't keep any poo in, and tbh the Baby Beehinds is much more absorbent than the Bumhugger.

Oh, I also have a Drybees Night Nappy which is brilliant, it's a fleece pocket so is dependent on what you stuff it with, but I don't find that the pocket is quite wide enough for the inserts I'd like to use so I'm selling it. The legs on it are fleece and brilliant though.

Both of mine often (once a week or so) leak through disposables in the 12 hours over night. I have got them both in fluffles tonight - one with a hemp booster and one with a flannel. One with a tots bots fleece wrap. It is too small on him (his is still in the post) but it is rainbow striped, so he spotted it and wanted the 'bobby dazzler' bum on as he said. I expect that it will leak and his brother who should have that on is in a ME airflow wrap with a silk liner as he is recovering from nappy rash (from disposables/teething/pooing during a nap).

I could post back tomorrow with how it has worked. I may try the cotton tots bots tomorrow night.

Even if they do leak - it doesn't seem to ever disturb their sleep to be honest?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 26/01/2009 20:26

silk liner? Tell me more!

mumoftoby · 26/01/2009 20:30

I have only been using cloth for a week (well 1 day on him actually - he has been mainly nappyless this week with his sore bum and DH insisted we stick to disposables whilst he was really sore). It is the disana raw silk liner. I don't know much about it to be honest - just saw on kittykins that raw silk is supposed to have healing properties and thought I would try it overnight. Maybe a 'cloth nappy' pro or experienced user will know more?

lollipopmother · 26/01/2009 22:42

Personally I wouldn't try and Tots Cotton overnight unless you are seriously boosting it, they really aren't night nappies, my DD will make it sopping in less than 4hrs and she's only 4 and a half months. Fluffles are much more a night nappy and have the very handy pocket for you to cram to the rafters with boosters, I'd stick with them.

Deemented · 27/01/2009 09:06

I swear by Wee Notions night notions with a wool cover at night, or a Jimmy Riddles or Hollow Oak night time nappy - they are brilliant.

mishkamoo · 27/01/2009 15:08

Thanks for all your advice! I think I will try and find some 2nd hand Baby beehinds and a weenotions to try

Thanks lollipop - I will stick with the fluffles then! They seem to work well.

pbo · 27/01/2009 16:15

If you have a bumgenuis they come with the big insert and the newborn. Overnight last night I put both in and it seemed to last well. Mind you, dd is 9 wks and I have no idea whether she's a heavy wetter or not - everytime I change her the insert's full but who knows?! No leaks as yet with the bumgenius though

BabiesEverywhere · 27/01/2009 18:08

Bumgenius are only good for light wetters overnight.

My average sized ECed DD used Bumgenius version 1 (or 2 not sure) at night for ages no problem. But my 5 month old (partial ECed) heavy wetting big DS is bursting out of his version 3 Bumgenius and he wees so much they leak at night, through his sleepsack and onto our bed !!!

I am hoping boosted Motherease nappies with wraps will work better for us. I hope so I am sick of changing our sheets and his sleepsacks everynight.

lollipopmother · 27/01/2009 19:05

Babieseverywhere - What Motherease nappy are you going to try? I know a couple of people use Sandy's at night but they really aren't night nappies. I haven't tried the MEOS so I can't comment on those.

BabiesEverywhere · 27/01/2009 19:23

My neighbour gave me a couple of MEOS with snap in boosters which with a medium wrap have never leaked overnight yet !!!

But I am open for suggestions. I have a big (over 21.6 lbs) 5 month old who is leaking through bumgenius at night however well I boost them or leave them just with the microfibre pads. When he fitted in the medium wraps, we have no leaking nights with boosted MEOS. I am hopeing he will slim down again once he is crawling, back into the bum genius.

Any 'cheap' suggestions for a chunky boy overnight ?

BabiesEverywhere · 27/01/2009 19:25

Oh, I have just bought two large wraps, if that makes a difference as to your suggestion on night nappies ...LOL

trufflebum · 29/01/2009 08:42

cheap but practical- 2 prefolds, one pinned round the other padfolded into the wrsp. Not as cheap but more reliable and worth the money easily is a quick flip nappy in 100% cortton terry. Just replied below that there are some for £4 on nappyelite cause of the labels. We use them and they aork really well.

BabiesEverywhere · 29/01/2009 09:44

Too late I bought some second hand MEOS yesterday.

I'll bear in mind your advice if I get leaks with the MEOS. That said they are the 'Stay Dry' versions and I can boost them with microfibre pads if needed, plus poppers are great at night for when I potty DS.

pbo · 02/02/2009 17:15

bumping for potatoes

BabiesEverywhere · 05/02/2009 13:31

trufflebum, I was looking but couldn't find the £4 Quick Flips ?

trufflebum · 05/02/2009 18:29

can't see any myself today either wish I'd bought them when I saw them now.

BabiesEverywhere · 05/02/2009 18:33

I emailed the website and just got a reply...the have sold out. Got one to try off ebay for £4, so I'll see how that one goes.
