hello everyone i am new to mums net a and thought i would say hello by offering honest advice on real nappies. i used to sell them but i no longer do so do not worry I will not be trying to sell them to you, but what i have got is a lot of knowledge on different systems, trouble shouting, and a number of brands. i can also give you information on the west sussex free nappies given by the concil. So feel free to ask me questions and i will help as much as possible

hello

If you really want to help maybe you'd answer some of other people's threads rather than waiting for them to come to you? There have been quite a few nappy qs posted here today already...

Hello Lex and welcome

I ahve been asking loads of questions today and not getting many replies LOL.

My son is 2.6YO and is a rather heavy wetter up until now I have used disposables but fancy trying reusables now, he isn't ready to potty train yet so I will get atleast 6 months use from them.

  1. Can you reccommend a particular brand for a child of this age that is easy to use, don't have time to pin and put them together etc so something with velcro/popper fastening?

2.What accessories do I need boosters, wraps, how many and best brands?

Sorry am quizzing you LOL just don't want to waste money on crap ones would rather ask someone who knew

Thanks

hello everyone thank you for being so welcoming
Mamadiva in answer ro your questions i
would suggest

  1. a shaped bamboo or hemp nappy. bamboo is very absorbent. little lamb, tots bots, lollipop do them but they do have to have a wrap on the out side to and it can be a pain to but on, but are cheaper and last longer than pocket nappies.

  2. would be a pocket nappy with bamboo or hemp as the insert all the main company do pocket nappies. Here is a link to a good one.
    www.teamlollipop.co.uk/shop/index.html#1123X0

to reduce costs you can always buy second hand from the used nappy website and wash them in some nappy soak before you use them

Here is a bit about pocket and shaped nappies

Pocket Nappy

Effectively a pouch nappy used to hold a prefolded pad/insert
Can be prepared in advance effectively making it as easy as an all-in-one
Fastens with either poppers or Aplix (Velcro style) depending upon brand
Separate waterproof cover and booster allows rapid drying
Can vary degree of ?boosting? for different children/times of day

Shaped Nappy
Easy to change and convenient but requires a separate waterproof cover (wrap)
Snug fitting with elasticated legs.
Fastens with Aplix (Velcro style) or poppers depending upon style/brand
Separate waterproof cover allows quicker drying times.
Usually available in two or three sizes.

I hope that helps

Mamadiva - I am also very new to cloth nappies but I find using nappi nippas easier than popper ones and more reliable on fit than the velcro. It sounds fiddly to use but isn't at all.

Hi, thanks for the offer of advice, don't know if you can help with this one...I'm using Bum Genius which i love, was using Boots disposable liners which seemed to go out of stock, so switched to Bambino Mio which made my son's bottom and legs go red and sore. Stopped using disposable liners completely but now my baby's being weaned his poo has changed (won't go into gory details!) and for the sake of my washing machine I'd like to use disposable liners again - do you know of any that might suit really sensitive skin? Many thanks

potatoes twinkleontheweb sell fleece liners at £5 for 6. I use them with dd and they're a lot simpler to rinse off than the whole nappy. I use bumgenius too and I think they're amazing! I find paper liners stick to her bum and the poo goes right through anyway (runny yellow breastfed poo, lovely ) Recommend the fleece liners tho!
