hello.

i have always bathed with my dd (now 6mo), which is lovely. but i don't always want a bath and it's tough getting in and out if dh isn't around.

have tried bathing her on her own - it was IMPOSSIBLE. she slipped out of my hands and banged her head

she sits up well - any recommendations for bath seat etc. or are they a waste of cash and should i just get a bath mat?

any top tips on how to hold and wash a slippery, wriggly, curious baby?

tia

Lady at work recommends using a shower attachment and just letting them roll around in the bath - not convinced myself :-)

I also bath with my DS and am wondering if I'll always be doing it.... We do have one of the towling slopes you can get from mothercare which I use occasionally if I really can't be bothered to take my clothes off - not sure it would work for a 6mo though....

Sorry that's not mega helpful...

I use a baby seat, the plain swivel ones form mothercare or whereever for a tenner.
I didn't use anything with DD1 but when DD2 came along I realised I needed to have my hands free! She seems happy enough in it and can't get out and is now 15 months and stil using it at times (normally when I really need to properly wash DD1's hair...)so it has lasted well.

Wash her in the sink.

lol fox - we used to, but have tubby baby and small sink. she still gets hosed down in the sink if we get a two man poo.

like the look of the bath seats, but can you get to their bum with a flannel?

Have you tried just sitting her on a muslin? Stops them slipping a treat IME and no need to spend money.

JackBauer · 24/01/2009 21:54

I do stand her in teh bath before I sit her down adn wash her bum as you can't reach them, but it means I can leave her while both hands are busy with DD1 without worrying about ehr slipping. I tried sitting ehr on flannels but she is such a wriggler she would just lie down and try to discover if she could breath unerwater within seconds of being unrestrained! DD1 was fine on a flannel though as VotePedro has suggested, btu she is a much stiller child.

So depends on teh child I think.

We used one of those Mothercare towelling stands until he got a bit big for it, then for a while we just laid him straight in the bottom of the bath, we just didn't put much water in. He loved that and invented a game where he would turn his head to the side so his mouth just touched the water, then giggle loudly and kick his legs like mad! Then repeat... and repeat... very funny. Then once he could sit up well enough to not want to lie down any more, we just let him sit in the bath on his own - at first with a non-slip mat but then we decided that was just a PITA with no real benefit so we just did without. Either way we got the advantage of having our hands free. We did have to get very strict about "no standing in the bath" once he learned to pull up though!

have you seen those aqua pods from mothercare? There's a seat which is part of a bath mat too, so an older child (or parent!) can bathe with the little one?

mololoko · 21/05/2009 19:51

thanks Eemas - that's what we went for in the end. tis marvellous.
