My only-just-8-year-old ds has started to smell sweaty. Surely he is too young for this?

He has a clean shirt daily, and I have started to wash sweater and trousers more often. He showers in the evening, and i am insisting on a much bigger wash than previously in the mornings. But I can't believe he can really get BO at such a young age. Has anyone else experienced this with a ds??

Got a DD and we have had this problem for nearly 2 years and she is 9 in March.

Have a friend whose DS started BO at age 6.

We both use Mitchum deodorant to help them.

It's not nice is it and it seems so grown up for our babies.

Did you go to your GP or HV, if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering whether to do so.

I think I'll start him off on quite a gentle deodorant, and move up to something more powerful if i have to - don't want to hurt his skin. Poor babies.

I'd go to the Gp and ask about the early onset of puberty- it may be nothing but worth a visit?

Also try the deodorant type soaps you can buy. They tend to be the lemony ones. They are gentle but quite deodorising.

What about a pitrok?

BonsoirAnna · 22/01/2009 13:45

Quite normal.

You need to teach your DS to wash more thoroughly in the shower at night.

LoveMyLapTop · 22/01/2009 13:49

DS1 is 8 and has stinky pits.
He showers every day and uses pitrok or biosen deodrant, which are natural products rather than an anti perspirant.

I have the same problem with my 5 year old and have ben researching on the internet. I've discovered that it's quite common and the cure is to swap to Organic Milk instead of normal. Apparently, cows are given a hormone which organic ones aren't and this is what's causing the smell. Weird huh!

I've bought some today and going to try it out. Will let you know how it goes.

ft, how bizare. mightbgive it a whirl though

My DD 9 started to get a bit stinky last year. She uses Bionsen.

VaginaShmergina · 22/01/2009 14:39

Mumsnut yes we did go to the GP and we ended up getting referred as my DD even though she is 8 is in age 12 clothes and had tests for precocious puberty. Fortunatley she has been cleared after nearly 2 years.

Organic Milk opinion is interesting, will watch this thread.

My ds2 has stinky pits.... Was shocked as he is seven and I don't remember ds1 being so early. Bless him..........

Mumsnut · 22/01/2009 16:55

H'mmm. DS won't touch milk so can't be that. Might be other culprits though. I once worked on case involving chickens and the growth hormones, etc, they were given shocked me. So much growth hormone that the roosting leg snapped in about 95% of cases.

Anna - I stand and watch him wash in the shower. I also did his pits myself with a soapy flannel yesterday morning and by the time we left for school he needed a clean shirt - although the other had only been on for an hour. Granted he had been jumping up and down and generally rushing about in the meantime but still ...

Mumsnut, I think a trip to the GP is in order if he is getting that "aromatic" that quickly. More of a precaution than anything coz I fully expect you will be told it's his hormones

Is he aware of it do you think ?
