Milk at bedtime??

How important is it that my dd (2.6) drinks milk? She has a lot of other dairy throught he day including cheese and yoghurts (she would eat these ALL day if I let her!) and she also has milk in porridge or cereal for breakfast most days.
She used to have 5oz of milk in a bottle at bedtime but since we've started putting it in a cup instead she drinks less and less each night and now point blank refuses any most nights. Even now if I offer her a bottle she says no.

Should she really be having this milk still?

My DD (2.8) sounds very similar to yours - no longer has bedtime milk, will occasionally have a drink of milk during the day but has it every day on cereal and eats lots of dairy.

I think if she is getting it from the rest of her diet its not that important - esp if it is causing upset at bedtime.

OP, I have been wondering about this one too. My DS is 21 months old.
I looked the milk thing up in the NHS Birth to 5 years book the other night and it said that after one year old children need about half a pint of milk a day. BUT if they don't drink milk then they are to have at least two milk-based dishes a day.
So, I deduce from that that it's perfectly okay to not drink ANY milk, and therefore your DD is fine not having any at night.

thanks for your replies, milk has always, obviously, been such a major part of her diet since day 1, I dont like to think of her not getting those nutrients anymore!
think i will try ovaltine or cocoa? are these ok for a 2 year old? might encourage her to drink it??
