Can I put my washable nappies in with a normal load?

Just started using Bumgenius. Do I have to wash seperately at 60 degrees or could I put them in with normal washing at 40? Pros and cons? (Trying to cut down on the already staggering amount of washing I do due to the world's sickiest baby!)

I wash mine at 40 degrees if they aren't too nasty, otherwise they go in at 60 with other cotton whites.

They seem to be fine, DS never gets any nappy rash or any other problems

Before weaning, I washed them with everything else on 40. After weaning, I used liners, so could mostly continue this, but if they were minging, I washed on 60 and separatly.

make sure you give them a rinse cycle first IMO

NOt sure whats "right", but i put them in with the normal load at either 40 or 60, depending on whether i am doing whites or darks. But i do use bological powder thats "eats" away the poo stains... everything comes out clean, so i think its OK. Once or twice i have had to wipe the rubber door seal area with a piece of kitchen roll before taking the clothes out. If it was a poo that wouldn't drop off readily into the loo, it does tend to accumilate along that seal, but that might just be my machine....

Does realised this answer may be a little over descriptive and TMI, sorry!

If they are not too toxic they go in with everything else

Thanks very much! We are still at the pre-weaning explosive BF poo stage at the moment (but only once or twice a day now, phew) but I have ordered some fleece and paper liners to try and weaning not far off so hopefully will be able to 'catch' some of the worst!

And I will be vigilant around my rubber door seal, BigusBumus!

I use Bumgneius and always wash on their own, I found the other washing used to smell funny and you couldn't put softener in as it affects the absorbency of the inserts?

Also, you might find that if you put a liner in a Bumgenius all the poo rides up the back of the nappy and leaks out, I had terrible trouble with pre-weaned poo and liners, we got in a terrible state, so I just had to suffer the rotten nappies until she was weaned, now it just flops into the loo!!

Umm, can I ask a question. If you wash with a regular load does that mean you don't use fabric conditioner? We are down to night nappies only so I have to combine with other washing or they get too stinky, but I have only washed with towels because that's the only load we don't use conditioner with (very hard water).

Mummytowillow - yes, last night's wash didn't shift all the pre-wean poo so think will take your advice to wash seperately until nappies less poo-ey!
