What is better - a potty or a sit on seat (that is put on toilet seat)?

both! seat for upstairs and potty for downstairs in our house.

Really depends on what your DC prefers. Potties have the advantage of being cheaper and more portable. We bought both but DS prefers potty or just normal toilet seat.

Well we had a potty that dd used from 10 months old BUT once she could stand up from it she never used it again so recently we bought a seat to sit on the loo and she likes it but not sure she understands what it's for depiting asking to go on it cos she needs a wee or poo

despite not sure where depiting came from!

we had a potty which rarely got used and both dd and ds have sat on the big toilet without needing a trainer seat

we had both .. sometimes ds liked having the seat for the toilet as it made him feel more like a big boy but other times he preferred sitting on his potty with a pile of books to read!

Just potty trained DD 2 weeks ago and it's going well. She uses both a potty and a seat on the loo. The potty is good as she can use it on her own if only wearing some knickers and tights for example.

Depends entirely on the child. My DS1 preferred a potty until he was quite old (he's small) but DS2 is quite happy on the extra seat on the loo.

thanks so much for responding.

ds is only 15 months, but is weeing on demand after his bath in the evening (guess is a temperature thing), so i thought it was worth seeing if he would wee on the potty, so he might build the association.

i knew it was way too early, but thought if i had no expectations, it would be a bonus if he took to it.

anyway, he hates the potty, refuses to sit on it and if he does, he clings to me/cries/gets up.

so i might invest in a 'seat' for the future.

thanks again

See what he likes in the future.

Mine absolutely refused the potty but was hooked by a loo seat with Thomas the Tank Engine on it - and the concept of peeing on Thomas cheered Mummy up a bit

likessleep, my ds never really sat on the potty but liked to pee into it standing up - I would just hold it up under his willy and he would do his pee.
