this is not a joke although it might sound funny, i am sooo upset.

my 2.7 month old just stuck his hand down his dirty nappy then wiped the walls, shit was everywhere and in getting him undressed (absolutely hysterical) pulling his shitty hand from his mouth and to the bath i got covered!!!!! i am fuming, he is in his room now.

we had a new baby 2 months ago and decided not to potty train just yet but this is getting really really bad as his dirty nappies have been mega!

i need help in what to do, he knows what a potty and toilet is, he uses it sometimes. do i just go cold turkey and make him go without nappy????

what do i do???? any help would be appreciated, thanks

you are not alone! i think most children do this at least once.

Do you mean 2.7 y/o

Try it. See what happens if he's not ready and it becomes too much hassle try again in a couple of months. You will know if he's ready.
This may also be an attantion thing as he realises doing it gets attention.

My dd did this once when we moved her into her own room after co sleeping I think they know it is something that will get your attention tbh.

First I would after i posted on mn clean every where and have a bath with a glass of wine!

Then and only then would I think about if I was ready to tackle potty training with a fairly new baby in the house.

Potty training with a baby in the house....I can't honestly say i would fancy it BUT it does have to be done at some point and your baby probably sleeps more during the day now than she/ he will in say 6mths so that leaves you more able to keep an eye on your ds (they need watching like a hawk while potty training, the slightest sign means a dash to the potty and if they miss it/ cant wait you obviously need time to clear up the mess)
If it is just a one off then I would def leave potty training until your ds is 110% ready.

I wouldn't potty train so soon after a new baby - it will be one change too many and could really unsettle him. Wait until he's 3 - I always told mine that nappies weren't allowed during the day after their third birthday, and they just accepted it as one of those things. I implied it was some sort of rule that I had no part of - and we had very few accidents.

These things happen - if I tell you I've just been cleaning shit off the bathroom floor after DS2 (10) didn't quite make it in time (D&V), would you feel better ?

phew thanks, good to know that this is normal. it could be an attention thing as he was shouting for me to change the channel to cbeebies.... but i was busy with baby in the bedroom... we've told him before to not put his hand in his nappy.

i put ds1 into pants this morning and with strict instructions he pee'd in the potty (loadsa praise) but then went into his playhouse and quietly finished off peeing in there all over himself!!

i guess he's not ready....

Can you put his nappy on backwards and a vest over the top then trousers?

chockywocky · 20/01/2009 16:02

LoveMyGirls what do you mean??

I can sympathise. I have lots of feint brown crescent shaped stains where DS decided to sit down mid-change. No advice re potty training I'm afraid, we aren't at that stage yet [dread emoticon]

LoveMyGirls · 20/01/2009 18:09

I mean to stop him from putting his hands down his nappy
